*** Brett Veach Appreciation Thread ***

I haven't started a thread in many years, but I was thinking this morning (after searching to find one of these type of threads on here) about the Chris Jones scenario. And it would seem to me based on what we know about Veach and Reid, that we shouldn't be concerned.

The ability this team now has to find and develop talent is OTHERWORLDLY.

Chris Jones is an AMAZING talent, but what's the difference between $25m and $30m at the end of the day? Not THAT much. He's set. Jones is just pissed off that the Chiefs didn't sign Frank Clark, so he's being a bitch about it.

But Brett Veach ALWAYS finds a great talent to replace whoever is in there.

He found Patrick Mahomes II and begged the Chiefs to draft him.

The way he assembles teams is something we've never seen in KC and maybe never before seen even in the NFL. And he was born in 1977, IIRC.

So, In Veach I Trust. He will be a pro football Hall of Famer, IMO.

What are some of your favorite things that Veach has done that you'd like to thank him about?

Hey you guys remember John Dorsey? Me either. (aside from Drafting Mahomes and Kelce)

I guess we should send him a bit of appreciation also. Hopefully they sent him a SB54 ring.

If he's done what it appears he's done with the WR room ( that he's done with the offensive line, secondary, and LB corps already) get his statue and gold jacket ready - and get ready to lose every guy underneath him because he's figured out the cheat code and every team is going to want a piece of that.

Let's not suck our own dicks yet. The position looks promising but not one of them has proven dick yet.

Let's see how it plays out

Veach was largely responsible for getting Mahomes in KC.

He's done a great job giving the offensive line, and now the wide receiver room longterm stability.

He's been truly elite at finding low-rounders and UDFAs, and bargain bin trades. It's legitimately absurd how good he is at that.

He's given the DE room a lot of talent, we'll see how it develops over time.

He's built one of the best LB rooms in the NFL, and of course has constructed a secondary on a shoestring budget.

His drafts, with the exception of the 2018 abomination, have given the Chiefs Pro Bowl caliber players every single year.

And even though he has signed some stinker deals over the years, he has done an elite job of managing the cap and mitigating those mistakes as much as he could.

He will take risks as well, which work for him as often as they don't. The Tyreek Hill trade was a masterclass, and the Mahomes contract was the best contract in NFL history until the Jalen Hurts deal came down the pipeline.

It's really, really hard to complain about him as GM. He's been the best we've ever had, though I think John Dorsey's drafting record was stronger. Veach has been superior literally everywhere else.

That being said, the Chris Jones drama could end up being the biggest blunder of his tenure here. It's not that he needs to cave as soon as possible to Jones, it's that he should have been able to detect how impossible this was going to be early in the process, like he did with Tyreek, so he can pawn him off for the highest possible return, which he would have gotten this offseason.

Now both teams are stuck in this toxic dance, where the Chiefs are going to have to slowly work in a disgruntled Jones into the rotation and hope he plays well enough that he can still net the team a nice return in a trade, assuming he doesn't come way down.

Kind of shocked there are still folks stupid enough to refuse to acknowledge the humongous part Veach played in bringing Mahomes here.

well.... when the national pundits crapped all over the chiefs for both selecting mahomes AND the draft capital they gave up , it was all Dorsey . when smith started at QB the next year and people thought they should have helped the defense it was all Dorsey. when Dorsey got canned ( and he sucked at people skills AND cap management / contracts) and a relatively unknown and unproven Veach took over THEN AND ONLY THEN did the "Veach as a scout is the only scout in nfl history who is responsible for his GM's draft pick" myth arrive. timing is everything in life. , don't get mesmerized by the laundry and attempt to think critically. or just keep washing the wrinkles right out of Veach's balls . be my guest
