Attending my first Chiefs game

It's been a long time coming, but I'm finally planning to make the big trip to visit Kansas City from Australia to see my Chiefs play. With this thread I'm mainly keen to suss out the seating situation at Arrowhead, but any general advice or useful information to know when visiting Kansas City would be great to hear.

I've been in touch with a ticket rep, so generally know how the ticket buying process works and I'm ready to grab a couple of home game tickets shortly after the schedule is released this week. I plan on going to the home opener, so I have my fingers crossed that there will be at least two home games in the first three weeks of the season. A couple of basic questions I have:
  • Where are the best seats at Arrowhead? Either midfield or an endzone might be the obvious choices, but if anyone can provide specific advice on this that would be great. i.e. best value seats for the price, best view of the field/team, etc. I'm aware the ticket prices are high at the moment but it is what it is.
  • Is there anything to do at Arrowhead during the week when games aren't being played and during away games? I.e. tours of the stadium, Chiefs related events, etc.
And about the City:
  • What are the must do's and must see's in Kansas City? Chiefs related or otherwise.

Aside from Chiefs home games, I'm hoping to catch at least one Mizzou and/or K-State game, as well as a Royals game and Sporting Kansas City match (depresso I know, but when in Rome right). A trip to the Pro Football HOF would also be on the list if at all possible. I'll probably bump this thread a few times over the coming months with more questions, but decided to get the ball rolling by hearing what the upstanding Kansas Citians of the Planet have to say first!

Cheers

If he's driving all the way from Australia for the game, another 800 miles isn't that much harder.

Harry Truman presidential library is interesting and it’s not too far from the stadium.

Id just spend all my time in the new KC airport. There is something for everyone there you can even catch some art and watch the game from there. There is a good chance you will meet up with a lot of CP'ers they love airport lurking.

Make sure you fill up in Kiribati, the next rest stop is 1900 miles away in Hawaii.

I would suggest tickets somewhere around midfield (between the 30 yard lines) and not the end zones. You can even get a great view in the 3rd level.

If you feel that you want to take a short excursion from the beautiful new KCI do I have a plan? Just down the road 3 to 4 miles in beautiful Platte Woods is In A Tub get some deep-fried tacos and a burrito with chili and cheese. Then head to Dicks sporting goods at Zona Rosa to get your chiefs gear to wear back at the airport.

For seats, we sit on the 35 yard line about halfway up the upper deck, and my dad sits right at the side of the endzone 12 rows off the field. I prefer our seats to my dad's, because I can watch plays develop. My dad is so close I end up watching the game through the jumbotron whenever I sit down there. I'd sideline in the lower part of the upper deck is the way to go. Also, the higher rows of the lower level have the overhang of the club level above them, so you'd be safe in case of any bad weather.

I highly recommend the stadium tour. You'll get to see parts of Arrowhead that you'd never get to see otherwise, and learn a lot about the history of the Chiefs and the AFC in general (since Lamar Hunt helped found it). It also starts and ends in the Chiefs store, so you'll be able to do some shopping there as well.

My favorite barbeque in KC is Arthur's and KC Joe's. Many will have differing opinions, so take that for what it's worth. If you enjoy some good bars and good food, you should definitely check out the Power & Light District and Westport. Any local art museum in just about any city is interesting if you're into whatever exhibit they have going on. Union Station usually has some pretty cool photo ops, as well as being an interesting place to visit.

I'm a few hours from KC, so I'm not necessarily a local. I'd like to think I have a good idea of what it's like to "visit" there.

I might add if you are missing a taste of home someone mentioned Outback and there is one right outside of Zona Rosa.

After In A Tub you will probably need a restroom there is a Kohls near but it's kinda hard to find. I'd probably just head back to the airport and have them page Twisted Chief. He knows a lot about those restrooms and will see that you find a nice comfortable shitter. He is not from KC but he's here a lot and is always looking for a Boy Scout Merit Badge in our airport. He won't steer you wrong and seems to need friends.
