Who should be re-signed?
We have a huge list of players set to be UFA after this season. I know it’s only the halfway point, but it’s not too early to start the conversation.

We’re slated to have 24m in estimated cap space according to overthecap and currently have around 23m to rollover from this season. So, unless I’m way off (which is possible, I’m just adding up our current cap space and next years estimated taken from OTC), will have close to 47m in space before doing anything with Sammy Watkins. If we choose to cut Watkins, that adds another 14m in cap space.

Chad Henne
Xavier Williams
Lesean McCoy
Darron Lee
Jordan Lucas
Morris Claiborne
Bashaud Breeland
Emmanuel Ogbah
Chris Jones
Reggie Ragland
Matt Moore
Kendall Fuller
Anthony Sherman
Stefan Wisnewski

So far, Ogbah, Jones, Breeland and Ragland have probably all earned reasonable FA deals unless Veach thinks upgrades can be had at similar cost.

What you aren't discussing here is this.

The Chiefs are going to have roughly 24 million of cap space at the start of FA, that doesn't include Jones obviously.

You cut Watkins you sit at 38 mill......if you give Mahomes his highest paid player deal and you keep Jones, you're talking at having roughly 10-15 mill of space...no CB's on your roster and about 40 players...that's a real tough spot.

Now you can create about 15 million of space if you cut LDT, Colquitt, Erving, Sorenson and Wilson.

I could argue they should be replaced with younger cheaper guys who can perform similar.

Definitely re-sign Ogbah and Jones (I'm open to a tag and trade if there is an outstanding offer).


Maybe Breeland, maybe Claiborne. IIRC, we don't have many CBs signed for 2020. Ward looks really good- hopefully he keeps ascending. Fenton has done well enough to warrant more time this year. If his play stays consistent, I would probably let Fuller walk.

Don't care much one way or the other about anybody else on that list.

I rarely agree with Mr. Gorilla but I do on this. I would tag and trade Jones if possible but I wouldn't give him a $20+ million contract. Nobody else on that list bothers me one way or the other.

I hope we don’t pay out the ass for Jones. I really like him as a player but he’s not worth Aaron Donald or Khalil Mack money. I’d turn him into a 1st and 3rd round pick or something along those lines. Veach will find capable contributors via the draft.

We can and will win, with or without him.

Pringle looked good so I’m okay with him being the #3 basically taking Robinson’s spot. With Hill and Hardman being the 1 and 2. I would cut LDT and move Rankin to RG and see if Wylie can become better at LG

Hitchens makes half of what the elite off-ball LBers make right now. It is what it is.

They’re using him in much better ways now and he’s making some plays. Is he gonna lock up Jones/McCaffrey/Kamara in coverage? **** no. But what linebacker is?
