Congrats to your 5-8-1 first place Carolina Panthers!

Chiefs would OWN the NFC South!

The Cardinals were 10-6 last year and didn't make the playoffs as well.

Home field in the playoffs should be based on best record. Then you can respect the division format where a shit division winner gets in, but must play on the road. In any case, no way should the NFL expand the current amount of playoff teams. Just my opinion...

Get ready for it, because it's probably going to happen in the next few years.

Woudn't it be something if after 3 8-8 seasons, Dallas still misses the playoffs?

9-4 now, winning tonight. Have two winnable games.

Jerry would be the one to demand the changes in playoff structure.

The Panthers stink, the Bucs are just that much worse. Home or road, I don't think any of the 3 remaining NFC South teams will win a playoff game.

Yea, no kidding
From those stats, I do not see a problem with it. Win your division.. It is perfect how it is now.. If every team played every team, then it would make sense.. Hell I would be down for it if all games played were conference games. But now, a division that is decent could go up against a really bad or really good noncon division and swing their wins by +/-4 which is huge..

Oh, I know it is. Just going to lead to teams with sub par records making the playoffs.

Probably, the AFC struggled to even get 6 teams with a winning record the last couple years. This year though 3/4ths of the teams are .500 or better.

The problem with changing it up is everyone doesn't play the same schedule. Doing it by division promotes rivalries, but it also compares you to teams with basically the same schedule. Just look at the AFC. The Chiefs and Chargers had to play the NFC West... and now they're sitting behind the Steelers and Ravens, who might end up getting the WC spots because they got to beat the crap out of the NFC South.

No one is going to question that because though. That's why you have to give divisions some weight.

I disagree. You shouldn't make the playoffs when you lose a bunch of non-division games just because your division is shitty.

One more Saints loss away from clinching a sub-.500 record for the NFC South champion.

Yeah, but on the flipside, you're going to be rewarding teams that beat up on terrible divisions. You basically have to choose your weakness.

Just a question I have been wondering lately. Lets say the Chiefs finish at 8-8 and the NFC South best is 7-9, who has the higher draft order--us or the "winner" of the NFC south?

I'm with you on this. As long as they're playing unbalanced schedules, there's no reason to change the current system.

The Chiefs would. Whoever wins that division is going to drop down in the order.

It's funny because take Atlanta... they were in 1st, now that they aren't, they are actually the 14 seed in the NFC due to tiebreakers. They are in the running for the 6th pick in the draft. But they could still win the division and drop down to 20.
