Haley suspected Chiefs of bugging facility, cellphone

http://network.yardbarker.com/nfl/ar...lphone/9363281

At some point in our lives, most of us will experience sour grapes over a job that, for one reason or another, we were let go from. Whether it be Pizza Hut or Goldman Sachs, there’s usually a bit of lingering resentment after an employer terminates you.

Todd Haley’s case is no different, though his grapes — or more appropriately, arrows — go way beyond the realm of the NFL.

In a first-hand account by the Kansas City Star, Haley, just days after he was fired, opened up about what he perceived to be secretive — and illegal — operations inside the organization.

Haley suspected that “many rooms” at the team facility were “bugged,” and his own personal cellphone was “tampered with” during his time as Chiefs’ head coach. He believed the purpose of the alleged spying was to “monitor employees’ conversations.”

Now, this definitely reeks of paranoia by Haley, whose peculiar and volatile personality leads some to think he’s a few cards short of a deck. Though, there appears to be more Deep Throat here than just a disgruntled (former) employee.

The Star talked to “more than two dozen current and former employees” who hinted that Haley’s suspicions are valid, saying “intimidation and secrecy are among the Chiefs’ principal management styles.”

“When you’re mentally abused, you eventually lose it, too,” one former longtime Chiefs executive said.

The report proceeds to delve into GM Scott Pioli, whose tenure has supposedly been marred by “constant worry” and even “age discrimination” with the franchise’s upheaval in recent years.

“The level of paranoia was probably the highest that I had ever seen it anywhere,” another former high-ranking staffer said. “… If you make the wrong step, you might not be able to pay your mortgage.”

These are certainly severe accusations, which, if they hold water, could bring about a scandal the league hasn’t seen since SpyGate in 2007. However, it wasn’t wiretaps and FBI-like protocol that cost Haley his job. A string of losses and uninspired play by his team, capped off by a mid-December blowout loss at the hands of the Jets, ultimately led to his walking papers

NOBODY expects the Kansas City Chiefs Front Office! Our chief weapon is intimidation...intimidation and secrecy...secrecy and intimidation.... Our two weapons are intimidation and secrecy...and ruthless efficiency.... Our *three* weapons are intimidation, secrecy, and ruthless efficiency...and an almost fanatical devotion to the Pioli.... Our *four*...no... *Amongst* our weapons.... Amongst our weaponry...are such elements as intimidation, secrecy.... I'll come in again.

Heres what Peter King is saying about it....which i agree with. Provide some evidence Haley or shut your trap.

I think that was a very meaty story by the Kansas City Star's Kent Babb about what he described to be the paranoia and insecurity he reports to be rampant in the offices of the Kansas City Chiefs under owner Clark Hunt and GM Scott Pioli. It's worth a read. Much of the story is about charges of former employees -- some in litigation with the team -- about being treated unfairly by the new regime; those charges will be refereed in court in due time, and we'll see whether the Chiefs have been unfair to employees. What jumped out at me in the story is former coach Todd Haley's suspicions -- as reported by Babb -- that rooms at the Chiefs offices were bugged. Babb also reported that Haley told him he believed his personal cellphone had been tampered with.

Whoa now. Those are very serious charges. Does Haley have proof that a federal crime has been committed and his phone was tampered with, or an office he works in has been bugged so team management could spy on him and other employees? If he has proof or something more than simple paranoia, out with it -- and expose the team for something incredibly scurrilous. If not, that's a damaging rap to lay on someone, or an organization. Haley needs to set the record straight.

Making these accusations without evidence, true or not, doesn't do much to help Haley overcome his current reputation as a bat-shit-crazy dude.

Haley hasn't made any accusations. His comments were made BEFORE he was fired.

But by all means, ignore the statements of the dozen other people that are involved.

It's all Haley's fault.

babb's article was complete speculation and rumor based on fired employees with an ax to grind.

The idea that Haley's phone was tapped is easily proven.

Why doesn't Haley just take the phone to the police and prove the tap? Then Pioli and company will go to federal prison and Haley will be vindicated.

unless of course, Haley knows that it's complete bullshit and taking the phone to get checked will make him look like a fool.

Easy, dude...I wasn't putting everything on Haley. Just saying that this doesn't necessarily help his reputation around the league, either. It's not good for anyone.

I think you're blind if you look at this kind of an article and think it's just employees with an ax to grind. There is something there and a lot of these stories were confirmed as being true by Farmer, Donovan, and/or Hunt.

I've said before... I doubt Haley's phone was tampered with. I agree, that's easily proveable and if it's proveable, he should do it. The spying and monitoring, however, there is a ton of evidence in the things we know as being true that lead us to a pretty firm conclusion that this is more than just a conspiracy theory. My conspiracy theory is that Haley was driven to that level of paranoia because conversations he thought were private ended up not being private. But at least that conspiracy theory is surrounded by quite a bit of evidence that can lead you there.
