A Levelheaded Review Week 2 2024

Mahomes just flat out missed that LB lurking and threw it right to him. The pass to Rice for a TD was a thing of beauty. Perfectly placed just out the reach of the defender and right in the bread basket of Rice. That second pick was Mahomes frustration he really likes pushing the ball down the field and the Bungholes really know how to take that away and force us to play the short game.

The PI call on McDuffie was bad, Chase grabbed him by the shoulder pads inside the neck and pulled him in. The PI Non-call on Rice was terrible, the defender was there waaay before the ball.

Steele fumble just need better ball protection when running thru crowds. Defender did a good job of loading up a nice punch to knock it out. Just needs to learn from it and push on to the next rep.

Our biggest weakness on defense these first two weeks seems to be TE's. The LB's just don't seem the same without Gay out there. Bolton in coverage is always trailing...

Pacheco is looking really good this year running the ball hard and getting a lot more YPC (5.1 YPC in the first half). Also really has seemed to improve his receiving out of the backfield

Notable that Skyy Moore is getting snaps, haven't seen any Juju in the first half. Seems that most of the Offensive sets have been Worthy and Rice. Watson sprinkled in a couple of times.

Kickoff roatation has been Moore, Hardman, Steele. Hardman and Steel had been the "starting" duo last week on kickoffs. Interesting to see Moore mixed in this week makes me wonder if they are showcasing him as part of a trade for another player since we are still sitting at 52 on the active roster after Hollywood was placed on the IR.

I really wanted to see the 68 yard field goal but with 24 seconds left it was the right call and Ariaza pinned them deep and made the Bungles run the QB sneak. Could have easliy turned into 2 points.

2 things on the first drive after halftime - a thing of beauty - not what we are used to seeing but if they wanna let us pound it down their throat then we will oblige and two - holy hell Kingsly must have gottn popped good in the mouth/nose. His chin strap was covered in blood.

Wanya Morris for the TD lol - love seeing the fat guys get a TD. Could have easily gone to Kelce in the back of the EZ.

Reid leaving the game to have his hand looked at again. Hope everything is okay.

That could have been a great goal line stand but the rush kinda quit on the 4th down play. Looked like they were really tired -- bonus that their kicker missed the PAT.

The defensive line doesn't really seem to really get much of a push outside of Jones. But comes up huge with the strip and fumble return by Connor for a TD. Bummer we missed the 2Pt conversion but we needed the score by the D after the last INT.

Kingsley was getting taken to task by Hendrickson as the game wore on. Definitely need to work on figuring out LT. If he is getting abused by Hendrickson then Crosby and others are going to eat him alive. Morris seemed to fair a little better on the last drive after they pulled Kingsley. I thought the hands to the face was pretty ticky tacky. Yes, he got his hands up in Hendricksons face but it seemed pretty incidental and they came off just as fast as they went on. It wasn't a sustained hands to the face.

That was an excellent PI call on 4th and 16 he was there way too early. Too bad they missed the earlier PI call where Rice was hit too early.

Chamarri Connor on the DB blitz. What a timely sack to give the ball back to Mahomes with just over 2 minutes to go in the game.

Butker with the 51 yard FG for the win. Starting to be pretty standard that the Cheifs win against the Bangles by a FG. What a game.

But yeah, some concerns out there.

Lou Anurumo might be the only DC who I think is as good as Steve Spagnuolo. Dude just always has a good plan against Reid and Mahomes.

Chiefs are going to have to figure out some things at LT. I still think Suamataia can be effective and have a good season, but Hendrickson is a really tough matchup. Don't remember seeing much 13, but some 13 sets with a TE attached to the LT or coming down for a crackback on Hendrickson to slow him down seems in order.

Also have to find some adjustment in their nickel and dime sets that helps against TEs. They're getting roasted there. Maybe they can find a 3 safety look that works better, IDK.

Room to improve.

Oh, and they miss what Marquise Brown offers. He would help against tough, grabby man coverage.
Is it me, or did Andy just kinda leave the poor kid to fend for himself? There were maybe 1-2 screens in that direction, little chip help until the 2nd half. IDK if that's on purpose to get him on the learning fast track, but man that was BRUTAL.

LT is obviously the alarm right now, we saw the rookie's floor and it's not good enough. Tackle play completely derailed the offense. Can the coaching staff get him or Morris to an acceptable level?

Crazy game... Bengals and Bills are basically division rival level in terms of how often they play, with the bonus of playing in some huge games, so can't ever expect it to be easy.

I would have been stressing the hell out had that kind of chaos occured in the playoffs, but it was pretty fun to watch given it's week 2.

Two of their top ~4 or 5 games down and we all get to laugh at the Ravens and Bengals (and Broncos) being 0-2.

Still, we should've gotten more going underneath, with the TEs at least, but just two catches from our TEs all day.

Didn't think we'd miss Hollywood that much in this one, but we certainly missed something or somebody, because we could get anything going down the field. Though, that last INT by Pat was mostly on Pat. Pass was way too flat. Really needed to lob that one over the top and let Worthy run under it. But, really, it just seemed like our receivers weren't able to get open. Again. Which is concerning.

I really don’t miss Mvs at all. But it shows why you still kind of need it. Mvs was actually a decent weapon against cincy because you can go over the top on them as long as mahomes picks the right spots.

I think - without seeing the A22 - that we didn't really scheme anything under it was all 10+ yards. Thats an Andy issue, we should have been running routes for the underneath stuff but I don't think we were.

If I’m remembering right last year when we played cincy, Mvs was insanely wide open on a few long walk in TDs but mahomes overthrew him. Prior to that he put up 116 and 71 vs cincy. If there’s one thing he did well it was show out against cincy. We really need that kind of option because it’ll take some time for worthy to get there.

The TE's are whopping us because Gay is gone. He was the TE equalizer last few years. That's all it is. The other guys cannot do what he did for this defense.

Agree 100%. We threw his to the wolves today and did not offer support with a chip or keeping a back in to block.

Team in general is still getting their legs. The running game is looking good but with Pacheco hurt we will see what Perine can bring.

Defense is still a bit too inconsistent but overall they are doing okay.

Mahomes has got to figure it out. 3 interceptions in 2 games and a 4th called back due to penalty.

Kelce's age is showing but he still commands attention and will be there later in the season.

Offensive Line is hurting in pass protection right now, particularly at LT. That right now is about the only glaring worry.
