But Uche was standing on the sidelines snapped up and ready to go the whole time. And I saw at least two plays where we sent Herring on a damn stunt - like that EVER had a chance to work.

You have Uche there, you may get that pressure. Because he made stuff happen even when he wasn't the first guy you saw. I watched him every time he was on the field and that was a heck of an addition.

And we didn't use him a bit in the situation that we seemingly acquired him for. I really don't get that.

The one time I’ve ever been cross with Spags was when he insisted on using Sorensen in early 2021 even though he was an obvious liability in coverage.

I don’t know. Every so often he gets too afraid to elevate players who have chances to make plays and instead opts for the boring shitty vets he knows. I’m sure that’s every coach to some degree, but yeah. Don’t know Uche’s snap count last night and I’m willing to be somewhat patient with it being his first game but come on. Put him on the field tell him to go get the QB. You don’t need to study the playbook very hard to know what to do on that play

Ah, now I remember. For some unknown reason they can't fix facemask calls. That's why they didn't fix the facemask on Darnold a couple weeks ago.

I believe him when he says they gave “very minor consideration” to going for 2 there. It probably wasn’t even on his radar.

Bigger issue than not going for it was calling a timeout when they got to the 1 yard line with 30 seconds left. I suppose he wanted to leave some wiggle room to be able to run the ball without worrying about time expiring but it didn’t make much sense to me.
Chiefs didn't score to end regulation but giving KC/Mahomes/Butker that much time is just plain dumb. Butker hitting a 60-65 yard field goal at end of regulation after Mahomes got a couple of first downs would have surprised no one. With field goal kickers now able to hit from 60+, leaving a team additional time on the clock with several timeouts doesn't make enough sense even if it means reducing your own ability to run the ball.

In Tampa's shoes, I would have gone for 2 but to be fair to Tampa, they may not have practiced that many 2-point plays without Mike Evans and Chris Godwin.

Yah. That might've been the issue. Probably was the issue. The only WR they had that probably got snaps with the 1s in that subpackage was Palmer. McMillan was a late scratch, so no way Shepard, Jarret and Miller had much or any snaps for that situation. I'd bet a house payment Jarret and Miller didn't.

And I don’t think Mahomes or Reid were particularly upset about that.

They had flashed a stat just prior that Mahomes had never thrown a TD pass in the 4th quarter of a tie game. Mahomes becomes an assassin late in close games, but he does get pretty conservative at the same time. He knows when the game is on the line, throwing into those tight windows can lead to disaster and those are the types of risks you typically have right take to make TD throws in the red zone.

If Bowles had decided to go for 2 and converted, leaving us down 1 with :27 and 3 timeouts, no doubt in my mind that we’d have been able to move into field goal position for the win.

Worthy will be fine. He needs to work with Pat more and learn to just get open, which may mean adjusting the route off script, like Travis does. Takes time.

Guys are open on throws almost every single down. QBs complete about 2/3 of their passes, right? So lets assume an average QB throws 15 incomplete passes in every game. And I'm gonna say there's someone 'open' on at least 10 of those most games. And hell, on COMPLETIONS there are usually guys open downfield that would've been better plays. It's just the nature of football.

Missed shots is one thing (and yeah, Mahomes has missed a couple of those. Damn I'd have liked to have seen that deep ball to Watson thrown to Xavier because Mahomes put GREAT touch and arc on that ball. Juuuuuuust a little more speed from a guy who's slightly better at tracking the ball and you have a 6). But "he was open on 4 plays where he didn't get the ball" is Skyy Moore stuff.
Yeah it's funny how that was one of the best deep balls Mahomes has thrown. Just so happened that Watson was the receiver and he didn't have the speed to get to it. But Mahomes finally put some air under a deep ball. That was good to see even if it was incomplete.
