The fate of Chris Jones 2023 edition

Appears the Chiefs and Chris Jones are at the beginning of a contract dispute

Speculation has been that the two sides are "far apart" on a deal

So Chiefs Planet.... how do we think this will play out (poll coming)

Will the Chiefs pay up and meet Chris Jones demands? If so, how much will it end up costing?

Will the Chiefs not be able to meet Chris Jones demands and end up trading him? If so, what kind of haul can we expect?

I've really loved watching Chris Jones wreck shit for the Chiefs, it always sucks when the business side of the NFL forces teams into tough decisions.

You think there's a chance in hell he's signing the franchise tender? Of course not. And that's probably why the other $10 million in impact on his franchise figure next year isn't included in his calculus. He has ZERO intention of signing that tender.

He's done here. He'll play out the season, probably half-assed and eventually hurt, then he'll get moved. Because he's taken steps at this point to ensure that coming back at $25 million or so is non-tenable for him. And the Chiefs have drawn their line in the sand.

I think this saga is mostly over at this point. Now it's all over but the crying.
Yeah....I agree.

I'd trade him now if I could. Just be done with it.

Honestly..

I don't think they thought he would demand that much money or pull this protracted hold out thing...if they had expected it they likely would have handled it differently.

Yeah, but at the time CJ acted as if he was going to be a Chief for life and we lost Saunders as well with the CJ antics.

30 year old Chris Jones last big pay day is the only thing that matters to him, I guess the Chiefs should have seen that coming, an aging player trying to cash in one last time is what he is.

Lets swap him for Bosa!

Apparently he and the 49ers are nowhere close on a deal either.

Not gonna happen I know but funny to joke about.

Not exactly true. Even when/if he comes back Veach does not have to take him off the list until "THEY" think he's ready to play. Veach can do whatever he wants now that Jones didn't report today.

Yeah, but the thing is.....it's not clear that this strategy will even maximize his earnings.

I'd take a 2nd for Jones from Chicago and package a couple 1's and 2's and send them to SF for Bosa

He wants 33 a year so no thanks to that though.

I mean what are you supposed to do?

So this guy that we budgeted to pay like a top player at his position even at 29 years old is demanding to be paid like the 1 outlier at his position we can't do that...and in return the player basically lights everything on fire while smearing shit on anything not burning?

No one would have really expected him to do that, it logically doesn't make sense.
