And I still would prefer another move. Because we don't really know how Brown will fully incorporate into the offense and we still don't know what we can reasonably ask from Worthy.

Admittedly, my view on offense is seen through an 11 personnel lens. It always has been - its easily my preferred course on offense and has been since I was 13 yrs old playing Joe Montana football on a Sega. So I'm a bit dogmatic there.

But I view the combination of Brown/Hopkins/Worthy as reasonably likely to amount to about 2 'wholes'. Those 3 guys all have significant question marks - I'm not comfortable counting on all 3 of them unless/until we HAVE to.

And we don't. We have a little extra draft capital and there are guys in Johnson and Slayton that can make this a ton smoother for us at a reasonable cost.

I'm just far more comfortable with a top 5 of Brown, Johnson/Slayton, Hopkins, Worthy, Hardman than I am that same group WITHOUT a relatively steady, reliable and versatile presence in that 2 slot. Because when you take that out of there, you're moving everyone else up a peg and that's just a little iffy.
Hopkins at least gives them playable 11 sets now. You can run Hopkins/Worthy/Hardman/Watson through there and present some challenges for a defense, at least. A 12 set with Kelce/Gray/Hopkins/Worthy looks pretty nice, too, and functions a lot like an 11 set because of Kelce.

And yeah, MCL injuries don't just go away (though if his knee was compromised I can't imagine KC trades for him). But his was suffered in TC and he sat for a month after, so it at least has some more time away from it.

I can't see them burning a bunch of draft capital for Johnson now, but someone like Slayton I could see if the comp isn't too crazy. Hopkins also probably lets them negotiate from a better position, too.

They have a lot of contacts coming up after this season and ARE going to need picks to help fill out things...

Or some of us could see it as it is...a reasonably intelligent move to shore up a decimated receiving corp.

I don't have high expectations for anything more than for Hopkins to be a quality receiver....if he gets 200 yards and 3 TD'S in the next 3 games I will be happy.

Or I can sit and be pissy because BV didn't pay a silly price for Adams or Cooper.

Even the most whelmed person has to think

Hopkins, Worthy, JuJu >>> Rice (rookie), MVS, Watson

and if you add Brown into the mix?

It clears the last two WR corps we've had in '22 and '23 no doubt I think.

If that’s the obstacle, it is so easily remedied in a few years with a very quick reset which we should do no matter what anyway.
Exactly.

Again - I said yesterday "Dammit, get to 'yes' -- get a deal done. We'll worry about the margins later, but we need help NOW"...

And they did. That's fine. It's commendable. It was by god necessary.

What we've done is put a pin back in the grenade but the fit isn't perfect and the grenade is still jostling around a bit. Might be enough - maybe the pin stays in there and everyone sings and dances on their way to another parade. But maybe a pothole not far down the road drops that guy out again and by then it's too late to do anything about it.

I wouldn't mind finding a little JB Weld to just firm that ****er up a bit and make sure things aren't harrier than they need to be.

Because as we said at the time of the Toney trade guys, "It's just a 3rd round pick". And the value of Toney was a mere rental once we cut him (a half season plus another season of suck).

And yet because of the contributions he made in that Eagles SB, we'd almost all, to a person, make that trade again.

We HAVE proof of concept with the Toney trade. And proof that we, as fans, have little compunction about the cost. So why have so many flipped on it?

It feels like rationalization to me. I find it extremely hard to believe that if next week we hear that the Chiefs gave the Titans 3rd for Johnson, this board would be full of guys going "NOOOOOOOO!!!!! FOR A RENTAL!!! DAMN YOU BURT!!!!"

So is Deandre Hopkins going to get to give Skyy his pink slip, like he comes into the building for introductions and medical clearance then after all that he’ll get to tell Skyy he’s done?

I keep circling back to Titans 3rd for Slayton and Giants 4th.

That feels a LOT like a Veach move. We still retain the same number of picks, we get a younger WR with some versatility who could mesh and stick around if things go well. The overall return to the Giants is actually pretty strong -- equivalent of a pick around 80, IIRC.

It's a little bit of an overpay in a vacuum, but we ain't operating in a vacuum and Veach can do some pretty fancy stuff with an early 4th.

That deal feels right in his wheelhouse.

I think it's funny that when we made the deal for Toney at the cost of a 3rd rounder it was "Pft, it's just a 3rd round pick, that's nothing..." and now suddenly that same 3rd round pick is untouchable.

And I'd say the pressure to win is no less now than it was then. The odds of us having ANOTHER shot at a 3-peat are pretty damn long as Kelce wraps up his career and Jones nears the end of his prime. Those are HoF guys; there's no reason to take as faith that we're getting 2 more of them anytime soon.

We can accomplish something far greater than what Buffalo can accomplish this season. I think we should act accordingly.
Toney came with 3 years of cheap cost control.

They're just not burning a day 1/2 pick on a rental. It's just not gonna happen.
