IT ****ING HAPPENED
OP UPDATE: Because of all the interest in this thread, I've place all of the video content of Patrick Mahomes II's college career, and draft day goodness into a single post that can be found here. Enjoy! Last edited by Dante84; 05-17-2017 at 09:40 AM.. |

Stop with this Lamar Jackson shit. Other people are going to talk about it, so I won't. I would rant about that, but other people will also be doing that, so I'll leave it alone.
You know what also needs to stop? Aaron Donald. I don't care how good of a DT he is. He's not as good at being a DT as Patrick Mahomes is at being a QB. Shut the **** up. Stop it. Eat shit and die. |

Pat's close or around the same level, IMO, but it seems he has yet to hit his ceiling. |

I was talking to C3HIEF3S about this. Nick Bosa’s performance in the Super Bowl is the ultimate example as to why Darnold’s performance as a DT doesn’t top Mahomes as a QB.
There’s a legitimate argument that Nick Bosa had the most dominant game out of any player in the Super Bowl. He had 12 pressures (a Super Bowl record - topping Reggie White), a hit on Mahomes, a pass deflection, a forced fumble, and the sack that stopped our drive down 10-13 (No way Pat forces that throw on 3rd and 5 vs 3rd and 12). Bosa was a monster and generated pressure on over thirty percent of Pat's dropbacks, he arguably stopped two of our drives on his own, and only slowed down on Williams last TD after the Niners D was on the field for 70 plays (still think Andy sticking with the run was key to the Niners wearing down). Bosa also had Pat wrapped up and done on the drive the Chiefs were down 20-17 but Pat being Pat got out of it and hit Kelce for a first (that’s when Aikman said you could feel the momentum had entirely shifted) That kind of game from Bosa destroys Manning, Rodgers and Rivers from ever having a hope of competing. But not Pat. Bosa had a historically dominant day (likely ends up with 3-4 sacks against another QB/LT) but as C3HIEF3S said, it took Pat what, 5 minutes to overcome it anyway? It’s why it’s always going to be difficult to justify putting Darnold over Pat for that reason. Last edited by Chiefspants; 07-30-2020 at 06:34 PM.. |

If your question is strictly "Is Donald as good at playing DT as Mahomes is at QB" then there's a key omission. Was ANYONE as good at their job last year as Josh Lambo was at his? Dude was nails. 97% hit rate, 4 out of 4 over 50 yards. Guy was as good a kicker as Donald was a DT last season. If you're awarding points for reputation and longevity, then Justin Tucker is probably the best kicker of all time and was still incredible last season. And of course neither were in the top 100, because impact on the game matters. it isn't just about how well you do your job, it's how well you do your job and how important that job is. There is NO reasonable argument to make that Donald has the impact on the game that Mahomes does. Just none at all. And even if you're of the belief that Donald is as good at DT as Mahomes is at QB (arguable, but I'll listen), the impact that QB has on the game dwarfs DT. Ultimately it's a bunch of defensive players trying to boost their own station by putting a defensive guy at 1.1 in the hopes that someone will believe that defenders are still as critical as offensive difference makers. They ain't.

The thing lost in this:
The players voted for this in November. They only wrote down the top 20 players and from the interviews a significant amount put themselves #1. Only 57% of players participated. This list is stupid and we shouldn't worry about it. That said this is the best thing that could have happened from a Chiefs fan's perspective. |

Another very simple rule change should be that you can't vote for anyone on your team. That mitigates a number of problems.

Or for yourself. It eliminates that whole "i'm number one that's my mindset" cliche that players love to say in every interview ever. Considering every player in the NFL was a legend on the gridiron all their lives it removes that factor.

Ultimately, I feel like you've got to weight the "how good are they at their specific position?" argument a bit more heavily than "how much of an impact do they have on games?", otherwise you'd end up with QBs being insanely overepresented. I think the best way to highlight that would be to think about a top 100 list of all-time. Given the influence QBs have on any given Sunday you'd probably end up with the top 15 or so spots going to QBs and I just don't like the optics of that lol |

Listening to Terez's Yahoo podcast today and heard maybe my favorite sports quote ever.
"Greatness is measured by your graveyard..." He's talking about Jordan and pointing out that Jordan kept truly great players from ever experiencing success. Barkley, Ewing, Drexler, Malone - these are all-time top 50 guys and Jordan took their souls. So Watson, Jackson, Burrow, Lawrence, Fields - fellas, you're just gonna be names in Mahomes graveyard. And it's just gonna be great.

Stop this bullshit of "Patrick Mahomes was bad for the first 3.5 quarters of the Super Bowl!!!!" bullshit.
There was nothing wrong at all with his 1st quarter. He gave the Chiefs an early lead. He had some mistakes in the 3rd quarter. Go ahead and call that one bad. |
