With the beginning of a new year, it is time for the 2012 version of the Royals Repository Thread. We've got Hosmer, we've got a 2011-dominating Gordon, we've got Moose, we've got hopefully a killer bullpen, we've got a stereotypical slow slugging DH, we've got easily one of the best defensive shortstops in the AL, we've got a promising catcher in Salvador Perez. Hell, we've got offense and promising prospects galore.

We do not have starting pitching.

Oh yeah, we've also got this:



Get ready for, (as of January 2012 anyway), one of the most confusing puzzles of a baseball season in recent Royals history. Will they suck? Maybe, I don't know. Will we be given a year of 0.500 baseball? Possibly, I don't know. Will they win the division and go to the playoffs for the first time in 27 years? For the first time in a long time, it could happen, I don't know. 92 losses, 92 wins, or anything in between would not surprise a lot of us.

Everything goes here except Gameday threads and really big news. If a giant story breaks, the Royals achieve some awesome milestone, or we sign/lose a highly significant player/coach/mascot/whatever, then it might also deserve its own thread. This being Chiefs Planet, please do not clutter the board with new threads about trivial Royals news or you will only annoy those who come here for just Chiefs football. If you aren't sure and its not a Gameday thread, it goes here.

What sort of stuff often goes here? SPchief explained it well, so I'll just copy that:

If you locate something of interest.. ANYTHING.. deals on apparel, best ways in/out of the stadium, giveaways, great stories from this season or from seasons gone by, rumors, trades, anything.... feel free to post it here.

How about they get successful big league pitcher from either or minor leagues or by trading for it, how about any way possible. OK? Also our prospects always suck shit. Sands Grienke of course.

I hear ya. I guess it’s a “one in the hand, two in the bush” thing. I can see how “prospect that projects to be an ace” and “solid 2-3 proven starter” could have equal value. But I wouldn’t package the ace prospect with other prospects just to get the proven 2-3 guy.

His ceiling is a #1, he has that kind of stuff. At the same time he is not a can't miss ace by any stretch of the imagination.

The difference between a prospect who has #1 ceiling and a proven solid 1-2 type starter is huge. I'll trade the former for the latter all day long.

I should also preface I'm talking about moves that could/should be made next offseason, not next week. Still some wait and see with this team.

Big difference between a 2 and a 3. I'll move pretty much anyone for the former, while being far more cautious about the latter. Hell, Chen's ass might qualify as a 3 in some circles and for some teams.

Very true, tough to label players by their place in the rotation. A 2-3 for the Royals is not near the pitcher as a 2-3 for the Phillies. What I should have said instead of a 2-3 guy is a good starting pitcher, but not one of the clear and away stud aces in baseball.

I hope you're right. I love the kid's potential. However, if we went back a few years, many would be saying the same thing about Montgomery? NO WAY we'd consider trading him for a proven #2 (again, not #3...big difference).

And now he's been hurt, inconsistent, hurt, etc. That's the nature of the beast. Pitchers all get hurt. Not "if" but "when." Thus, if I can trade pretty much any pitching "prospect" for a proven #2, I'm doing it right the **** now.

If it weren't for you that 12 gamer would have never happened and we'd be in 1st place right now. Duffy wouldn't have gotten hurt either. Why do you always have to ruin everything?

I know SAUTOS is huge on Odorizzi (And always has been)...

But I've never seen him projected as anything more than a No. 2 or 3 starter. Never as a true "ace."

Now, his performance this year might show he can be more of an ace than previously thought, but the consensus on him has been (even when he was still in the Brewers system) that he was maxed out physically, and wouldn't develop the plus breaking pitch he needed to be a true No. 1/all-star starter.

Are you guys looking at something I missed?
