*****The Patrick Mahomes Thread*****

IT ****ING HAPPENED

OP UPDATE:

Because of all the interest in this thread, I've place all of the video content of Patrick Mahomes II's college career, and draft day goodness into a single post that can be found here. Enjoy!

Im actually going to disagree. Processing the game, sure, learn on the fly. But when it comes to footwork and technique, Id rather get it right in practice first before you establish bad habits on the field. His footwork was a total mess in his first preseason. Struggled to throw even simple screen passes. His approach to barreling over defenders and not throwing the ball away would have gotten him killed.

I said in year 1, Favre and McNabb and big Ben learned on the fly. That led Favre down a path of getting hit a ton when he didn't need to. Big ben has never truly embraced running an offense that doesn't involve tons of freelancing. One could argue that these habits were learned on the field early because they realized they could get away with them.

Sometimes great play is manifested in perservering through great pressure.

Mahomes wasn't playing poorly, he was facing a well structured and disciplined defense. So instead of just letting fly and relying on mistakes to simply be there on the defense, he/they had to start picking and probing and stressing the structure.

It's kind of like free-solo mountain climbing. In the moment, there might look like a lot of waiting and resting and trying shit that doesn't work great, but so long as you don't actually fall off the mountain you're still in the fight, and when you finally reach the summit the evidence is in that you're a badass climber.

Being a champion isn't always about making it look easy. Sometimes it's winning even when it looks messy and hard.

Great post. I am not angry at all, I am on cloud nine right now. None of the shit talk on the Chiefs or Mahomes means a damn thing. They set a lofty goal, and as a team- made it happen.

It is not like they had an easy ride. It was a very tough season, injury-wise, schedule-wise, playing conditions and then coming back in 3 straight playoff games. They are exactly what a Champion is and represents.

I think learning a year behind Alex was huge. It added 3 years of maturity to his skill set.

But... I still believe we would have won against the Titans if Mahomes played. No way he would have laid down for that loss as Alex did.

My view. His real value might be $80M. If they get him at $40-45M it’s a pretty big bargain. But it will be interesting to see what happens with new CBA. Perhaps there is a positive development that will help on the salary cap.

What are you going to learn from Alex Smith if you are a guy like Mahomes? ok ok Mahomes..when it's 3rd and 12 you don't want to run for the sticks..you want to run it 8 yards and get out of bounds or take your check down to keep propping up that QB rating. Thats what you want to do. And oh yeah, you don't want to risk throwing TDs to wide receivers because those are the throws they might intercept. We want to just get into the red zone, play it safe and take our 3 unless the guy is wide open or their is blown coverage. Got that Patrick?

Mahomes sounds like he’s crying to Reid, very emotional

I wish there was some way to watch this one week of Inside the NFL. Maybe I can sign up for Showtime streaming free trial or something.
