I can't imagine from the beginning CJ asking to be paid the same as Donald and him still being on this team. They would have dealt him long time ago if that was the case IMVHO.

Overestimating their hand based on bad info or lack of understanding? The lack of understanding comes more into play if this drags past tomorrow.

CJ looking at Donald's outlier contract and thinking "I want that too!" reminds me of a spoiled brat who is pissed off about his 39 birthday presents because the kid next door recently got 40.

I don't know but if Jones thinks he's playing hardball then the Chiefs will play hardball back. That's kind of the way it works with negotiations. And the Chiefs would be foolish not to use all the tools in the box. Hopefully Jones knows this and will report.

My guess is they told the team they wanted to wait to see where the Simmons and Williams deals landed, thinking they would close the gap and make it seem more reasonable to ask for Aaron Donald money. Then when that didn't happen they just asked for Donald money anyway.

I'd be surprised if he doesn't report tomorrow (if all the things about reporting tomorrow are true), but also afraid they overplayed their hand and he'll have to sit for a game or two (not terrible by any means, but kind of shitty on his part if he still gets paid for being benched a couple weeks to get into game shape).

Not if they think there is no path to a long term deal. Withholding those checks would drop his franchise tag next year and make it easier to trade him. Jones is the one driving this truck off the cliff, not the Chiefs, and if there is no hope of an extension, then look out for the Chiefs interest should be the priority.

Jones’ leverage is his performance on the field. The team needs him on its defense in 23, and if it doesn’t have him in 24, it needs assets to help replace him. He and his reps are pushing that as far as they can. that runway is about to run out. They’re going to have to make a decision.

If he doesn't report, I'll bet that's EXACTLY what they'll do. Just exactly what damn choice has he given them? If he's not here, SOMEBODY needs to be and that person costs money. If he took the entire camp off - the same camp 'the players' went and participated in to get themselves into game-shape, why SHOULD he get paid for games he's unlikely to be able to meaningfully participate in. I think (hope) they're done ****ing with this clownshow of an agent. Alright Chris - you've had your fun. You have 24 hours before the game checks stop. If you think you'll be here in week 8 -- well we'll have you active in week 10. Have fun on your extended holiday.

If he doesn't report and starts missing games, are they gonna have him on the active roster? Of course not. If he does report and they can't play him because they can't have him getting hurt while he's getting into game shape, they need that $2 million to pay for somebody that's gonna play in his place. But apart from putting a guy on the 53 who hasn't actually reported to the team, I'm really not sure what sort of options they even have here. If he doesn't come in, their hands are tied.

That's what I have said all along, he blindsided them with this bullshit. No way they were demanding $30MM AV initially.
