I love it, keep him AND Bolton if you can Veach! Left AND right tackle are the problem.

Train up our younger guys and draft some competition at OT or bring in a vet, but don’t **** with the best IOL in the league!

The problem is that we already gave Smith's money to Taylor. And we're paying Thuney tackle money. Just not sure how we justify paying 80 million to the line that just got abused in the Super Bowl.

Guards are pretty low impact overall. Like can anyone name the right guards from the Patriots dynasties? I can't.

Maybe you pay Smith if you have the tackles figured out and don't already have 60 million in linemen. Like if Suamataia had left tackle locked down and Morris had right tackle locked down and both on rookie contracts then you feel good about spending some money on the line. But we already are paying 60 million and have no left tackle and an average at best right tackle. It's just a bad allocation of resources.

There is absolutely no way Veach is signing Trey Smith to a 5-year deal at least as long as Thuney is still rostered and Creed.

Just lip service. He isn't stupid. We aren't going to pay top end dollar to IOL for no god damn reason. Tip of the cap to Smith as we bid him farewell.

If we do have those guys signed up we might as well trade Rice or Worthy, Kelce, and Chris Jones and find our Saquon Barkley. Then replace Nagy with some OC who will run all of the time and then expect Reid to stay hands off.

It absolutely makes no sense.

The cap is going way way up in a few years. Maybe they'll try to sign him to some back-loaded deal.

Imagine if we kept Smith and found a competent LT. That's a very good OL.

I almost feel like we can get by with chewing gum and duct tape for the rest of the team if we have Mahomes behind a very good OL.

You have one year left on Taylor. One or two tops on Thuney. Then you have Creed and nothing.

Again, it's funny that I am somehow cast as defender of a huge contract for Smith as I'm not necessarily. I'm just saying that if this is what they want to do it's not fiscally crazy.

If your aim is to get better up front, then creating another hole isn't helping. And salaries go up every year. It's not crazy.

This post is nonsense.
Maybe it IS posturing. Maybe they would love to have Smith, but have a line in the sand. But a Smith deal doesn't preclude anything anywhere else in the team building or hamper the future. You're not looking at how these deals are structured or how the cap expands.

2, 3, 5, 5, 7.

The rounds the last 5 players Veach has drafted OL in. 1 isn’t with the team anymore. 4 bench players who none of can take a RG position from a 6th round pick.

And don’t @ me with the late round draft excuses. There’s plenty of starting RGs in the league who’ve been drafted in the third round or later. And quite a few who rank higher than Trey.

Kinnard, Nourzad, and Hampson are whatever. Shit happens on day three. Morris and Suamataia not even competing for starting jobs in 2025 is pretty ****ing rough, though.

Ok, this post is entirely disingenuous. If you can't argue in good faith, don't bother.

Your 2 was drafted as a left tackle project and is going to be a second year player.

Your 3 is an OT project and going into year 3. Looked better than your 2 until he had some injury issues. But still, neither were drafted to play guard. The positions aren't the same.

And the '6' that is Smith droppped due to medicals only, probably a 2nd or 3rd round talent at worst coming out. The blood clot issue is why he dropped. So let's not act like he's a 6th round talent guy.

So your entire argument is based on hooey.

Now, I'm thinking that Smith is going to get offered more money than KC is willing to match, so he ends up elsewhere. But don't act like this is crazy.

And if you're just going to give up on young project players immediately if they're not starter quality right away, then we should just not bother drafting at all. Impatient and silly.

We don't know that they're not.

All we have here on CP is a mass freakout with almost no information.

and Veach would be less than smart to be telling anyone what they're plans are.

Watched Andy’s interview with Simms and Florio: https://youtu.be/oK-jiYi1n6o?si=x3Lztf35j0OMhgm7

Pretty evident he thinks their inability to run the football or trust it led the whole thing to unravel. It allows a defense like that to play to their strengths and they just pinned their ears back.

This also tracks with the logic of trying to keep Smith. If you want to be sure you can run the football deep into January next year, letting the best run blocker go doesn’t help the cause.

Could you retain Smith, Thuney back to LG, and sign the LT while also drafting a lead back to pair with healthier Pacheco and see where that takes you?

I think so. There is no LT available out there who can prevent what happened in the Super Bowl while passing almost exclusively. The run game has to be viable.

Just trying to think this through from Reid/Veach’s POV.
