Alternate Reality Game 1: Chiefs
The original post is below in blue, but let's summarize it here based on the past few years.
1. If you're a new player, start with the current Chiefs roster. If you've been playing for a while you'll have your own evolved roster. 2. You can add any free agent that the Chiefs add. 3. You lose any free agent that the Chiefs lose, but only if they were on the Chiefs' roster when you began playing. 4. You can accept or reject any trade the Chiefs make as long as any Chiefs player involved is currently on your roster. 5. You do not get players that the Chiefs draft. You draft your own players, using the same draft picks that the Chiefs have. 6. You can trade down ONE time before the draft or after the draft. If you trade down before the draft, you get up to full value for your pick according to this chart: https://www.drafttek.com/NFL-Trade-V...-Rich-Hill.asp. (Note: this chart was updated in 2022.) If you trade down after the draft, the value of the picks you trade must be discounted by at least 25 percent. Any trade down must involve only the picks of one NFL team, and you cannot receive more than two picks more than you give up. (In other words, if you trade away one draft pick you cannot pick up more than three in return.) The other team's picks also must be picks that they held prior to the opening of the draft. See the examples at the bottom of the post. 6. You can trade up ONE time before the draft or after the draft. If you trade up before the draft, you get up to full value for your pick according to this chart: https://www.drafttek.com/NFL-Trade-V...-Rich-Hill.asp. (Note: this chart was updated in 2022.). If you trade up after the draft, the value of the picks you trade must be discounted by at least 15 percent. Any trade up must involve only the picks of one NFL team. The other team's picks also must be picks that they held prior to the opening of the draft. 7. By the beginning of the season, you must reduce your total roster to include only 53 players. Original post: You can ignore this now.
Spoiler!
Added Rules and Reminders: 1. Remember that you can draft undrafted rookies, so you don't have to select only guys who were drafted. 2. Anyone can change their rookie draft selections at any time, UNTIL we reach ten days before training camp. At that point, all picks will be locked in. 3. Each team can do ONE trade of draft picks if they like, using this chart:http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...t-trade-chart/. However, if you're trading up, you have to pay 15 percent more than the stated value of the picks you're obtaining. If you're trading down, your pick's value will be discounted by 25 percent. For example, if you want to trade up from the 20th pick in the 1st to the 10th pick, you can see from the chart that the 20th pick is worth 259 points. The 10th pick is normally 369 points, but by paying 15 percent more, it will cost you 1.15*369, or 424 points. So you would need to come up with another 165 points to make the deal (424-259) For example, if you want to trade down from the 20th pick in the 1st and pick up the 10th pick in the 2nd, your 20th pick would normally be worth 259 points, but in this game it will be worth 25 percent less, or 194 points. The 10th pick in the 2nd is worth 142 points, so you can get 52 points back from the other team. (Remember that you cannot pick up more than two extra picks in the trade, so consider your math carefully.) You can do only ONE draft-pick trade up and ONE draft-pick trade down, and in each case you can only trade with one other team for their own picks. (In other words, you couldn't take the 52 points in the above example from a third team.) Last edited by Rain Man; 04-25-2024 at 11:30 AM.. |

Here is a link to our poll after Year 1: http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showthread.php?t=223581
Looking forward to improving on the 2010 draft, to put it mildly. This is going to be like therapy. |

Okay, so far we only have two drafts reported on. Assuming we have the same rule as last year, this locks down 10 days prior to training camp beginning.

Here are the 2009 end rosters for those of you entering Year 2. You'll need to lock down your roster quickly since I've been remiss about getting this geared up.

The Duluth Normans rejected all trades last year, so we have the Chiefs' basic picks.
Normans reject the trade of the 102nd (4th round) and 144th pick (5th round) for the 93rd pick (3rd round) that was made by the Chiefs to select Tony Moeaki. (The Normans already have a pretty good Tony at TE.) Normans accept the trade that sent Tyler Thigpen to the Dolphins for the 142nd pick (5th round) Normans reject the trade that sent Tank Tyler to the Panthers for the 144th pick (5th round). We still think Tank has potential. Since we rejected the Alleman/Ndukwe trade last year, we retain the 173rd pick (6th round) that the Chiefs traded. Since we rejected the draft pick trade leading to Jake O'Connell last year, the Normans retain the 212th pick (7th round) So our draft lineup is: 1st - Pick 5 2nd - Pick 36 3rd - Pick 68 4th - Pick 102 5th - Pick 136 5th - Pick 142 6th - Pick 173 7th - Pick 212 We will draft the following: 1st - Pick 5 - RB C.J. Spiller. (Bills) Do we need him? No. But we think he's a playmaker, and we want playmakers on this team. 2nd - Pick 36 - QB Jimmy Clausen (Panthers) Yeah, even though we have Sanchez. We believe in depth and competition at key positions. 3rd - Pick 68 - DE Alex Carrington (Bills). We're shifting to a 4-3 and he can man the left side. 4th - Pick 102 - OT Bruce Campbell (Raiders) We need help at tackle and he's available. 5th - Pick 136 - FS Kendrick Lewis (Chiefs) Like the Chiefs pick, so we'll take him. 5th - Pick 142 - SS Reshad Jones (Dolphins) Looking for a little strong safety help, too. 6th - Pick 173 - WR Dezmon Brisco (Bengals) Any help we can get at WR would be appreciated. 7th - Pick 212 - LB Dekoda Watson (Buccaneers). Hope he can develop into a full-time LB This is our current roster coming out of last season. QB Mark Sanchez (Jets) Brodie Croyle Tyler Thigpen (Dolphins) HB Jamaal Charles Larry Johnson Jackie Battle Dantrell Savage FB Mike Cox Tim Castille, FB WR Dwayne Bowe Chris Chambers, WR Mark Bradley Derrick Williams (Lions) Lance Long, WR Bobby Wade, WR TE Tony Gonzalez (Falcons) Leonard Pope, TE T Branden Albert Ryan O'Callaghan Alex Boone (49ers) G Brian Waters Duke Robinson (Panthers) Wade Smith Mike Goff C Rudy Niswanger Jermail Porter, OL K (Scrub) P Dustin Colquitt FS Jarrad Page Reshard Langford, S SS Dajuan Morgan Ricky Price, S CB Brandon Flowers Brandon Carr Maurice Leggett D.J. Chiefs training camp begins on 7/29. By that I assume that we are still basically requiring teams to lock down by 7/19.
As I recall we are already down to only 6 teams competing. I think only 4 have reported their 2010 drafts so far. Come on, people! I plan on winning this thing. |

Working on my 40-man roster. I'm determined to keep doing this, as I am somewhat obsessed with this game. Rainman - do we have a deadline?

I like doing this too, because I think it'll be interesting over the long run. Let's finish our rosters before Game 1.

Let's go up to 43 players this year. We should be able to fill more as time goes on.

As Step 1 of the 2010 process, this is my team's training camp. My veterans are in black, my free agents are in blue, and my drafted rookies are in red. In my next post, I'll cut it down to 43 players.
Remember that you CANNOT sign a member of the Chiefs if you've previously rejected that person. So for example, if you didn't draft Tyson Jackson or Eric Berry, you can't claim them. You can only claim people that YOU drafted. Also, you can claim free agents IF this is their FIRST year on the team. So in other words, your 2010 training camp is as follows: 1. your veterans from last year. 2. NEW free agents coming to the Chiefs in 2010. 3. YOUR rookie draft picks. QB Mark Sanchez (Jets) Brodie Croyle Tyler Thigpen (Dolphins) Jimmy Clausen (Panthers) HB Jamaal Charles Larry Johnson Jackie Battle Dantrell Savage 20 Jones, Thomas RB 5-10 212 32 11 Virginia C.J.
