I am yes, just talking about cleaning the engine compartment with simple green.
My wash job on the car takes me plenty of time and I am very gentle to her paint and use Meguiars Gold Class wash with multiple mitts and drying towels. I put towels and plastic wrap over the fenders to lessen over spray when I did my wife's car. I only plan to clean the engine on a day where I will be washing the car as well. So clean engine first, then wash the rest of the car. Should take care of any chemical sitting on the paint if that's what you're asking about? But you are always so vague Jason!!!!

http://www.chemicalguys.com/ProductD...ode=CLD_101_16 That is the stuff I use and the best part is that bottle will last me close to a year. It is super concentrated so you dilute it based on your application. I get an empty gallon water jug and dilute it 10:1 with distilled water. Then I refill the spray bottle as needed (if I use it on any interior parts I add more distilled water and use a 20:1 dilution). I've used it on interior plastics and vinyl, spot cleaning carpet, and engine bay. RE: 303 -- I just use the regular one. I've been using it for years and frankly I never remember there being an automotive version, so I think that might just be a new marketing angle. I pick it up either on Amazon or Walmart depending on price. I see it in a lot of places. Slight aside, I used to use dozens of different detailing products, each one with a specific use. Over the years I have found that it really isn't necessary. (At least for me. YMMV) For example, I use the 303 for treating the engine bay plastics, interior dash and door plastic and vinyl, and tires. If you have a lip or valence that is plastic it would be great for that too. Point being, a few select products won't break the bank and have several uses. Just my $.02. |

I ordered the Chemical guys all clean + citrus and the regular 303 like you suggested. Looks like they have an automotive version but you're correct, it's just marketing. Most still prefer the original formula for all things cars. Awesome news is that 3 months ago they started producing the 303 back in the original state where the company was founded and is now being made cheaper. They have since lowered the prices but are still using the same formula. I got a 32oz bottle of 303 on Amazon last night for $17 shipped. That almost used to be the price of a 16oz bottle of 303 when I was looking at buying it last year! Last question Indian Chief (since your cars look great), but do you completely soak the engine compartment with this chemical guys product like other degreasers suggest, let it sit 5-10 minutes, scrub the dirty parts and then hose off everything?

After blocking off/bagging anything I don't want to get wet, I just spray the entire bay with water (regular hose -- I never use a pressure washer in there). Then I spray the APC where I need it. I have a dedicated crappy microfiber towel and a small brush just for the greasy engine bay stuff. I usually let the cleaner sit for a few minutes, but honestly agitation is going to do more for you than letting it sit anyway. I concentrate on the dirty areas but give the entire bay a once over. Hose off with water, double check your work, and start drying things off. After it's mostly dry I get the towel with the 303 and put on the finishing touches.

Here's a crappy cell phone pic of my new ride. I swapped out the set of original chrome wheels for a set of black Z06 wheels already. Now I need to remove the silver Grand Sport stripes on the front fenders.

Black wheels are by far the easiest to keep clean (which is the opposite of black paint on vehicles) because black wheels hide brake dust.
