With the beginning of a new year, it is time for the 2012 version of the Royals Repository Thread. We've got Hosmer, we've got a 2011-dominating Gordon, we've got Moose, we've got hopefully a killer bullpen, we've got a stereotypical slow slugging DH, we've got easily one of the best defensive shortstops in the AL, we've got a promising catcher in Salvador Perez. Hell, we've got offense and promising prospects galore.

We do not have starting pitching.

Oh yeah, we've also got this:

Get ready for, (as of January 2012 anyway), one of the most confusing puzzles of a baseball season in recent Royals history. Will they suck? Maybe, I don't know. Will we be given a year of 0.500 baseball? Possibly, I don't know. Will they win the division and go to the playoffs for the first time in 27 years? For the first time in a long time, it could happen, I don't know. 92 losses, 92 wins, or anything in between would not surprise a lot of us.

Everything goes here except Gameday threads and really big news. If a giant story breaks, the Royals achieve some awesome milestone, or we sign/lose a highly significant player/coach/mascot/whatever, then it might also deserve its own thread. This being Chiefs Planet, please do not clutter the board with new threads about trivial Royals news or you will only annoy those who come here for just Chiefs football. If you aren't sure and its not a Gameday thread, it goes here.

What sort of stuff often goes here? SPchief explained it well, so I'll just copy that:

Is there a certain inning where the games are free to get in after? I want to take my daughter to a game, but I want to make sure she will do well before I drop ~$100 at the K.

I don't know what the policy is now. In the old days it was the 7th. Next time somebody goes to the game, ask one of the ticket takers. They may not allow pass outs or people to come in free now. There's not much that is free with the Royals any more.

Tickets arent really the thing to worry about at royals games, you can get them for $10. Same price as a movie and the stadium is empty enough that you can sit in decent seats.

It's the combination of parking, hot dogs, beer, cotton candy, and all that shit that makes family time at the game expensive.

Petro and Goldberg were having a pretty good back and forth about Hocheavar. Goldberg thinks he can turn it around, and Petro has pretty much seen enough. However, he did concede thta you probably should keep him in the rotation just for the fact we have nobody to replace him, and you shouldn't rush one of the young arms up. (I think that was the jist. I just heard a quick few minutes)

We'll see how much Dyson can grow out there. I'm kind of hopeful. He's got a strong arm, he just has a serious learning curve off the bat. His batting has been better than expected, so we'll see how long he can keep that up.

Currently at 77. While he's down from his career average, we're seeing a more realistic picture of who Francoeur is as a hitter, and this is exactly why the stat guys wanted nothing to do with the guy stepping foot in KC in the first place.

Regarding Dyson: baseball instincts are not "learned." Even if one wants to argue that they can be, they cannot be learned at the ML level. A Cassel comparison is apt. Decent athlete who completely lacks the necessary instincts to play the position effectively.

I personally can't stand watching Dyson play defense. Anytime he makes a "great" play, it's because of the late jump he took to go after the ball. Could care less about his arm as well, as he generally can't get it anywhere close to the spot he's trying to throw it. At best, Dyson is merely ordinary out there.

Agreed. At best. Personally, I don't think there's a place on a ML roster for Dyson.

There definitely isn't on a legit ML roster.

However, watching the way Dyson carries himself, you'd think he's a 10-year vet with a $100 mil contract
