Do we want DeHop?

https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl...9536dcd3&ei=21

Story by Andrew Gould

The Kansas City Chiefs won the Super Bowl without a star wide receiver, but they could reportedly make an elite offense even scarier by acquiring DeAndre Hopkins.

NFL insider Benjamin Albright told PHNX Cardinals that Kansas City is the "primary suitor" for Hopkins. He doesn't know the draft compensation the Cardinals would receive, but he said it's more likely they get a second-round pick than a first.

After the 2022 season, theScore's Jordan Schultz reported that the Cardinals plan to trade Hopkins this offseason.

Arizona hired a new general manager and head coach after a disappointing four-win season, and Hopkins is set to make $19.45 million (with a $30.75 million cap hit) in 2023. The Cardinals could seek a clean slate by moving the three-time All-Pro wideout, who turns 31 in June.

Hopkins began his Cardinals career by tallying 1,407 yards and six touchdowns in 2020. However, multiple lower body injuries limited him to 10 games in 2021, and he served a six-game suspension to start the 2022 season for violating the NFL's PED policy.

Yet he remains an impact player when on the field. Hopkins totaled 474 receiving yards in six full games with quarterback Kyler Murray last season.

Now imagine what he can accomplish when catching passes from Patrick Mahomes.

The Chiefs flourished without a star replacement for Tyreek Hill, but they could still benefit by solidifying the position this offseason. JuJu Smith-Schuster is a free agent after garnering 78 catches for 933 yards on a one-year deal. The depth chart features several talented question marks in Mecole Hardman, Kadarius Toney, and Marquez Valdes-Scantling.

Adding Hopkins could be great news for Kansas City, but terrible for all opposing defenses.

Do we want a high priced prima donna?

I'd say best case scenario for the Chiefs, if they get Hopkins, it's KC 1A, Buffalo 1B.
The Bills lost to the Jets last year with Zach Wilson as their QB. They beat that same Jets team at home with Mike White by 8 points.

The Bills might not even win their division of the Jets get Rodgers.

If the Jets gets Rodgers, they're easily the more balanced team.

Why exactly?

I didn't say theoffense was shitty, you did. I've said repeatedly that the moniker "top offense/defense in the NFL" needs to be taken with some context.

Example: in 2019 the KC defense began the season as the worst run-defense in the league. But after Week 11, they began to get better. By the end of the regular season, they were a top-10 unit vs. the run over the last half of the season. But the talking heads and rival fans like Jeff.Fisher kept telling us we had the worst run defense in the league. Some on CP believed it right up to the AFCCG vs. TEN. And all those people told us that we were going to get steamrolled by TEN's run game. Well, that didn't happen. Our defense stuffed Henry in the second half.

But that didnt stop the same talking heads/SF fans from repeating the same dumb season total stat to us for the SB, did it? And then we stopped their run game.

So, as I've been saying, have always said, season total stats don't tell you very much because there's virtually no context. Yeah, KC had the 'top offense in the league in 2022.' Doesn't mean that they were flawless, at all. And doesn't take into account any context either. Like how KC was the league's worst 3rd-and-short offense for most of the season. It doesn't examine or in any way describe just how incredible Andy/Pat and Travis had to be just to get those points either. Go back and watch any 2022 highlight reel, and pay particular attention to those amazing plays by Pat when he had to scramble for his life and make some ridiculous throw across his body. Or how many times a defender was literally draped around his shoulders/neck/waist as he's making a throw.

Now go back and watch those plays, but watch the receivers side that he's looking at post-snap, and how many times he has to pull the ball down and wait for someone to get open, or he has to make that scramble.

And then ask yourself: do the Chiefs win that game if Pat gets sacked or just misses the throw there instead of pulling off a miracle play? Over and over and over again? How many of those games do we lose if he only pulls rabbits out of his ass half of those times?

And finally, why should he have to put up with that? Why not have a serious WR out there so Pat doesn't have to make a pinpoint pass while some guy is wrapped around his neck, time and time again?

Or we can just sit on our comfy 'we have the number 1 offense in the NFL' throne, and pretend none of those close games happened, that Pat was never put in the position of Jesus-walking-on-water too many times.

I'd just rather be a little more realistic about that 'title' is all.

You're such a clown. Hopkins would be the 4th best WR on that team and wouldn't play more than 20% of the snaps. I'd take Chase, Higgins, and Boyd over Hopkins at this point. Bengals are already better than the Bills.

I can't believe the amount a ton of you are over valuing Hopkins. He's going to be just like Julio Jones when he went to Atlanta.

Anyone willing to bet that Hopkin doesn't have over 700 yards next year, no matter where he plays.

No we can't do this with KC too, Mrs. Athan.

Buffalo has major problems that trading for Hopkins can't solve.

Their defense is old.

Josh Allen is a turnover machine who melted down in their playoff loss to the Bengals.

Their offensive line is bad.

They have no consistent running game outside of Josh Allen running the ball and taking repeated punishing hits.
