The fate of Chris Jones 2023 edition

Appears the Chiefs and Chris Jones are at the beginning of a contract dispute

Speculation has been that the two sides are "far apart" on a deal

So Chiefs Planet.... how do we think this will play out (poll coming)

Will the Chiefs pay up and meet Chris Jones demands? If so, how much will it end up costing?

Will the Chiefs not be able to meet Chris Jones demands and end up trading him? If so, what kind of haul can we expect?

I've really loved watching Chris Jones wreck shit for the Chiefs, it always sucks when the business side of the NFL forces teams into tough decisions.

If he plans to cut prince it will simply be Niang who's salary falls into the top 51.

Never feel sorry for rich people. CJ said I can lose game checks and pay over 1 mil in fines because he can afford it. That is being a douche and one of those rich assholes that can just throw away money people hate. **** him. He was made rich as hell 4 years ago and now has decided to not honor his deal.

He can walk.

But we're tip-toeing closer to it with "Hey, do we really want to pay for a guy with one playoff sack? He's only been great during contract years..."

I'm not going to question the guy's effort or his productivity here. He's been among the best defensive players this franchise has ever had and one of the very VERY few who can say that they were instrumental in a championship. Perhaps the ONLY great Chiefs defender who can say he has been instrumental in more than 1.

The guy's a no question, first year of eligibility, Ring of Honor player.

I'm not start backing away from what he's done here.

Maybe we need to try a new approach.
How many posts to get him to report to the Chiefs?

CP will be furious if we give Chris Jones $30 million APY and he's the Chris Jones of 2019-2022.

The price is just too high, and let's be honest here: Chris Jones hasn't stacked together consecutive dominant seasons like guys like Reggie White and Aaron Donald did with regularity.

It's just too much

I don't think we're tiptoeing to that, I think people are just stating some facts. I personally don't care when those seasons were, just that he only had 2 of them. I do find it intriguing that they happened when they did, but he's still a great player in non contract years so I don't think it's lack of effort. We can't compare CJ95 to the most elite players like Aaron Donald because he only has 2 seasons of his career with double digit sack totals, while other guys are doing it consistently (and the positional advantage of him being on the interior is limited when 41% of his snaps are Over the Tackle or Outside of the Tackle, basically operating as an EDGE)

Define Best. Because in my opinion, if you lined up all of our defensive players ever, I can already think of a number of guys on top of my head I think are greater at their positions respectfully than CJ95 respectively (DT, Curley Culp, Emmitt Thomas, Bobby Bell, Buck Buchanan, Willie Lanier, Johny Robinson, Neil Smith, Deron Cherry, Albert Lewis). That's 10 without me looking at rosters, and I'm sure there are plenty I'm forgetting that upon seeing a name I would think were greater defensive players at their respective position.

In terms of winning a championship, I can't really put that on those greats, as we all know, there were many other issues than those players that led to no ring.

This isn't a thing. You're always eligible for the ring of honor once you're gone. They just tend to do one guy a year. He's a fan favorite, sure he'll end up in there. Kimble Anders is in there. Dante Hall is in it next year. It's more for fan favorites. This really doesn't mean much.

I'm not trying to be disrespectful by any means, just more that I think a lot of people here falsely equate him as HoF caliber, of which i would disagree.

What are you talking about? They have to have someone in that swing tackle spot. No matter when they make the move that guy's salary will be in the top 51.

I gave up.

I have no clue what he's trying to say.

Evidently you get free players after cutdown day or something. **** if I know.

Good luck.

With Jones holding cap space hostage Veach doesn’t have many options to bring in help.

Age does have a few contracts that if traded/cut could free up some money to bring in help.

So to answer your question he makes both Prince and Niang part of the 53 and then trades Prince for a DT that would fit about the same cap hit. Why is this hard to understand?
