I had a 98 Taurus SHO that started doing this....but not with a new or secondary key.....and it ended up being a problem with the PCM. it was a nightmare. had to replace it and the first two I got didn't work....the THIRD one finally did.

So I got to research it this morning a little more..in 2003 the keys started having a chip put in them..that's why the bottom of the keys are thick and gray..the chip is in the gray part..the 2nd key I have is just a metal key..so I ordered 2 new keys that are chipped..so now I got to have them copied and then program them
