It was supposed to be a prop gun. As the expert who is being brought in to investigate the shooting said, a prop gun is modified so it won't accept a cartridge with a bullet on it, only blanks. If the propmaster (who is in charge of props and safety) hands him a gun that is not a modified prop gun how would the actor know? In addition, he could have been following the safety rules on movie sets by not firing directly at another actor, but to the side of them. But if he fired to the side of an actor, but the crew was behind him in the distance a tragic accident could happen through no fault of the guy firing the gun (who believes it is a modified prop gun and has followed all safety rules).

I grew up shooting and have huge respect for gun safety, but this is not a normal situation. You are letting your political hatred of him color your opinion instead of the facts.

First 2 rules of gun safety are treat every gun as if it were loaded and NEVER point a gun at someone unless you plan on shooting them. He failed on both accounts.

Of course not, but the person who is in charge of handling the gun, real or prop, should inform whomever handles it of those 2 basic yet important rules.

Are you saying that gun safety rules don't apply to actors? My original prediction was that when we learn all the details of what happened, we would find that the death would be the result of a failure to follow gun safety rules. That doesn't change just because he is an actor.

How hard is it to understand that they take actors out of the equation when it comes to safety? Their job is to act. It's someone else's job to make sure the props aren't going to kill anyone.

Why on earth would anyone trust actors who, by and large, have never held a real gun in their lives, with gun safety?
