Open Carry

My last two trips to our little town of Branson West resulted in seeing private citizens with a pistol holstered.

I was right behind one in line at the bank and the other one came in to shoot the shit with the barber cutting my hair. The only thing holding the second guys gun in the holster was gravity, no strap.

I am pro gun and all for peoples rights, but why? Why does someone feel they need to be packing heat while running errands?

It makes me pretty uncomfortable to say the least. Is this person stable enough to packing heat? Is he or she sober? Are they worried about a jealous lover or spouse gunning them down? Is there going to be a shootout?

What is your opinion? Are we all going to have to be packing soon? Are we going to regress to 200 years ago, like the wild west?

Who vetted this person to have this weapon in public?

If you can’t see the simple answer all on your own, then I hope no one wastes their time trying to explain it to you.

Wait, what? Since when is there no background check?

I felt like I was in Robocop and had 10 seconds to comply. I flipped it off and kept walking.

The last time I went through it didn't say anything. I'm guessing enough people complained that it was dystopian to call out people like that for walking across a public parking lot. That or it just broke.
Maybe an open carrier shot it.

I totally get why people feel like they do. Environment and training are everything. My mother doesn't even break 5 feet, is walking tits on a stick and is a great shot. Because of her, I just assume everyone else is too. Regardless of what they look like.

So I'm cool knowing you have a firearm.

I provided the link to story later in the thread. But here is the news story that came up on the google search. That part of the story is certainly in question as to it's accuracy.

Personally, I remember in 2014 it took two days for Bass Pro to let me know it was ok to pick up my Glock 19.

Crimes are committed with both legal and illegal firearms. Obviously the people who make crime part of their daily life are going to find ways to get guns regardless of whatever level of rules are in place, just like stealing someone else's car to commit a crime. However you have be in that life to know how to get access to them unlike some whack-a-doo who snaps and decides they want to shoot up a school.

I also find it weird that you had to wait 2 days. By 2014 I would have thought that it should have been an instant background check.

Don't ever underestimate the inefficiency of the Ozarks. After 13 years here I have a saying: There is the right way, the wrong way and the Ozark way. It was even at the Springfield home office store.

For anyone still undecided on open carry, I think Mr. Colion Noir has a good video on this. And I agree with him.

Quite frankly, I think this level of cognitive dissonance on a subject kind of leads me to believe nobody needs to spend any time trying to explain anything to this person.

Good video, thanks. He has a lot of good points in my novice opinion.
I agree with him on the holster and retention strap for the gun, but early in the thread this post:

And as for you comment about it not being strapped in. It shouldn’t be. And if they are legit there will be one in the chamber ready to go.
The second guy I mentioned in my OP, had what looked similar to a holster I had as an 8 year old kid, leather with the gun not very stable at all, parading around in the barber shop to get attention.

I keep mine in this holster that was actually made for it.
