OP UPDATE:

Because of all the interest in this thread, I've place all of the video content of Patrick Mahomes II's college career, and draft day goodness into a single post that can be found here. Enjoy!

His drops are already looking pretty good. By the time his 7th step hits, the ball is out.

I'm really curious as to how Andy will handle the preseason reps.

Ideally, Mahomes plays with the second string. But, does that mean he has to be the backup? Because if he isn't completely ready, he shouldn't dress on Sundays....

I don't want him out there with 3rd stringers. I suppose they could just keep the 2nd unit in there for him and Bray in preseason games.

Oh FFS.....if the kid is picking up enough of the offense and Reid knows he can handle it....then Mahomes should definitely be the backup.

That's why its good to see him working on it on his own. It's gotta be second nature and that takes reps.

I think he's gonna get it.

If he's the backup week one, he is then one play away from being the starter... something no one believes he would be ready for. If he shows that he is ready for that possibility, sure. But otherwise, it's not worth risking the long term development.

If you're a backup, you need to be capable of being a starter, and we have no indication right now that he's ready for that. Bray probably isn't either, but there's no investment there.

Not really. We gave up next year's 1st, threw in a couple freebies AND we got a top 10 pick in exchange for a bottom of the 1st.

Profit.

I'm kind of amazed that the big battle on CP is "He should start in a year if he's ready" vs. "At least two more years for Alex no matter what". Even then it's basically everyone vs. one poster. I'm impressed that CP doesn't really have much of a "Throw him in! He can learn on the job" faction.

It seems rare that CP can have such a strong consensus regarding a reasonable and prudent plan for the Chiefs. What a difference drafting a QB can make.

IMO it will switch game to game. I'd start Mahomes on the 3rd team in the first week to ease him in, then 2nd string week 2, 3rd string week 3 then use a lot of the 2nd string offense guys in the final preseason game.

Damn this summer is gonna seem like forever. More than 10 weeks to camp.
