Ladies and Gents,
In 136 days, I’ll graduate from West Point (God willing...). Each year, our pistol team works with Colt to design a couple commemorative 1911s for our graduating class. The version I’m eyeing is blued with gold inlay of our class crest and other symbols representing the Academy. I’ll try to attach photos, but I’m on mobile and don’t know if I can figure that out. On the one hand, I don’t want to miss the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to buy this memento. On the other, it’s $1200 for a primarily artistic piece that I don’t envision myself ever shooting. I don’t know if I’d even be comfortable handling it as I could end up messing it up somehow. What says the Planet? https://ibb.co/2dQBQxL https://ibb.co/3dtXSjc https://ibb.co/VjrnmH6 Edit: can’t get the images to embed, but here are links to an image hosting site.

That's beautiful. Frankly, I couldn't resist putting some rounds through it. Just not a bunch. |

Young trooper - you (if you are able) BUY this pistol. Years and years from now, you will have that ring - and that pistol to keep you company. It's only my opinion - but the worst mistake the Army ever made was to drop the 1911. John Browning "created" a masterpiece. That pistol in your pics is stunningly beautiful. Grab it while you can and cherish it. |

You should get it, and you should at least put a few rounds through it just to make sure it works.
Keep in mind that higher end 1911s can be a bit twitchy. The tolerances are so tight that if something is the slightest bit off you can have issues. Nothing a good gunsmith can't remedy, though. |

This is truly a "once in a lifetime" event and you should buy it even if you got to borrow the money. Keep is safe and it will be a lasting memory for generations to come.

What do you guys think of these bad boys for self & home defense? Looks pretty solid when loaded up with some #4 buckshot.

I have always liked a shotgun - but after years and years of training (years ago) I sort of changed my outlook on a shotgun for home defense (even though I have a 12 gauge in my bedroom). Yes - a shotgun, loaded with buckshot - is a formidable weapon, but it's also a pain in the ass to maneuver (if you have to leave the room). Walls get in the way...you may have to swing it from one shoulder to the next, etc. Will it do the job? You bet your hiney. But it a split second timing situation, it does present its own problems - as mentioned above. I fondly recall my Dad - who was a huge believer in shotguns loaded with Buck shot. Of course, he violated the law by cutting the barrels on his double barreled 12 gauge from ?18 inches? down to like 12 inches. But, back in those days - folks didn't get "quite" as ape-shit crazy over things like that...... My "security blanket" of choice? A Springfield Armory 1911 -or- a Sig Sauer P220 (.45 also). Personal choice to be sure, but for me, they work. One or the other ALWAYS sits on my night stand. We have no children at home - just me and the Wife. |
