Miami Dolphins Star Jonathan Martin Being Treated For PTSD
http://radaronline.com/exclusives/20...hie-incognito/
Miami Dolphins offensive tackle Jonathan Martin is being treated for post-traumatic stress disorder and depression amidst allegations that he was threatened, harassed and menaced by teammates, chiefly Richie Incognito, RadarOnline.com has exclusively learned. Martin, 24, is not expected to report back to the team anytime soon, as he works with specialists in Los Angeles and awaits clearance to return. We’re now learning exactly what he’s being treated for. “It’s depression and PTSD… which is directly related to the bullying he endured by Richie and other teammates,” a source close to the situation told Radar. “Jonathan wants to play football again, but he absolutely can’t play for the Miami Dolphins. That said, football isn’t the focus right now. It’s receiving treatment and moving forward.” The insider said Martin “hates all of the publicity this has gotten,” but added that when the time is right, “Jonathan will speak out about what really happened” inside the Dolphins locker room. As we previously reported, the Dolphins have suspended Incognito while an investigation takes place — a club suspension for conduct detrimental to the team has a maximum of four weeks, per the league’s collective bargaining agreement. Incognito could appeal as well. Last weekend, 30-year-old Incognito sat down with Jay Glazer of FOX in an effort to explain vicious voicemails and text messages he’d left for Martin. “This is not an issue about bullying. This is an issue about my and John’s relationship. I had Jonathan Martin’s back the absolute most,” he said, in the interview. He also claimed that Martin once texted HIM that he was going to kill “my entire family.” It was just the way they communicated, Incognito said. Meanwhile, the NFL formally asked Dolphins owner, Steve Ross, and the team’s CEO, Tom Garfinkel, to postpone their meeting with Martin. “Ted Wells and the National Football League have asked that we delay our meeting with Jonathan Martin until they have the opportunity to meet with him,” Garfinkel said in a statement earlier this week. “Out of deference to the process, we will cooperate with their request. We look forward to meeting with Jonathan as soon as possible.” Martin is expected to meet with the Ted Wells, the special investigator appointed by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell in the next few days, a source said. “Jonathan’s lawyer, David Cornwell has been in constant contact with Ted. The NFL has been very supportive of Jonathan and respects that he is dealing with a very serious mental health conditions,” the source added. Martin’s lawyer, David Cornwell, didn’t immediately respond to multiple requests for comment. |

Can’t look at incognitos history in Miami in isolation. Look at his college career. Got booted from Nebraska because he kept getting into fights including with his own teammates. Didn’t even make it a week at Oregon where he was put on sabbatical for undisclosed reasons but probably easy to guess. It sounds like he came from an extremely abusive family so there’s a little sympathy. But he had a clear history of being an awful lot to handle.

That said, I think the bolded part is perhaps overstating things. I mean I wouldn't want to hang out with Wilson either, but that's beside the point a little. Just going by what the article sais, and kinda to your point, I think Martin was just a weird dude. I'm trying to come up with an analogy here and can't come up with a very good one. But let's say a white guy's dating a black girl and goes to a family cookout or something. And he's feeling out of place and they're cracking race jokes and he tries to fit in and lobs one back. And it....goes really poorly. I was at football practice once in HS and we had a big ol' kid named Rocky out there doing Oklahoma drills. Everyones talking shit (as one does in a football practice) and at one point Rocky lines up vs. our MLB and the MLB blows his ass up. Team goes nuts and somebody shouts "It's because you're a Mexican, Rocky!!!!" Rocky was Samoan. {record scratch}. Things get real quiet and Rocky gets real pissed off at that kid. Fortunately Rocky was a pretty chill dude so he got in his face a bit but that was the extent of it. But it was just an awkward kid (benchwarmer sort; not a bad kid, just not someone that really fit that dynamic) caught up in a moment that was beyond his circle, he tried to join in and it met with tough results. Doesn't that kinda read similar to Martin's social media post with the guns? Guy is simply in a world he's not used to and tries to fire back and just has no idea how and it goes WAY over the top. It predictably lands with a thud and he, having been protected most of his life, has no earthly idea how to handle it. Then things spiraled from there. And while Incognito's behavior was probably something of a flash point, it seems like the way his family dealt with it and the subsequent media firestorm around it took things to a elevated level. In the end, this is probably one of those stories that is better off buried. I don't think anyone benefits from it.

He was definitely too soft and in many ways a bad personality fit for the nfl. But that doesn’t warrant bullying. Forget about casual locker room talk and boys will be boys… he did this everywhere he went, and that includes staff and his own coaches. So yeah.. it’s less about me feeling bad for Martin and more about recognizing that the bully is way worse. Just as a refresher, he’s a pretty in depth look at incognitos long history of psychotic behavior https://nypost.com/2013/11/09/booze-...y-of-violence/ This tells a pretty interesting story. |

As someone who is intimately familiar with CPTSD, I just can't chalk this up to Martin being a pussy. If he truly has CPTSD, Incognito did something to him that we truly heinous. You don't get CPTSD from being taped to a goal post.

Sure wazu, whatever it takes! You either get some nastiness about you when you play on the o-line while protecting the goat QB of all time or you get the "F" off the field. Football very simply put is a "legalized street fight with rules played with a ball". You either learn how to fight or you don't fight at all
![]() Mahomes still had confidence in the Tampa Bay Super Bowl loss, even though he knew his o-line was barely an O line because he had not gotten "ptsd'd" yet to that point still making plays and smart decisions. He just didn't have the horsepower in front of him. This Super Bowl loss was different where now since that Tampa Bay Super Bowl loss he has played many more games with average o-lines at best experiencing more "o-line trauma"(getting hit more often and running for his life). But like I said, now since having all this PTSD o line trauma, he now knows what he's up against in the Eagles D and is going to experience again and he's not looking forward to it. And why I say he played "scared thus skittish". But like the champion he is, he did his best to compensate but unfortunately overcompensated, making bad decisions and throwing pics. I've said from the very get go that I've never been impressed with any of Andy's offensive lines since he has been here. And now that he finally has his Lamborghini quarterback he needs to at least give him a "Corvette offensive line. I'm not asking for a Lamborghini offensive line although we did have one from 2002 to 2005. Can you imagine what Pat would've done behind that line? Whether Andy realizes it or not he is slowly turning Pat into a "gun shy skittish QB" by not giving Pat a good offensive line. Like I said not asking for a "great line" those are few and far between just give him a "good line" is all I'm asking. |

Jonathan was clearly too soft for the sport and should have done something else. End of story far as I am concerned. Hope he conquers his demons though. Last edited by PAChiefsGuy; 02-18-2025 at 09:39 AM.. |

Incognito was clearly too mean for the sport. Because he was booted from pretty much every team he played for and was constantly sent to anger management programs that didn’t work. He didn’t even last a week at Oregon. Protecting against other OL is useless if you can’t even protect your own teammate and have a long history of fighting with them. He even went after coach callahan and berated trainers. He’s a head case. Martin was too soft for the nfl. He looks to be at peace and moved on. Incognito showed by his response that he has not. He’s the one who needs to get rid of his demons. |

I can't speak on Incognito having demons but least he didn't make false accusations of being bullied like Martin did. That's pretty low in my opinion.. |

It’s the same incognito that was booted from two college teams. Who was arrested repeatedly for off the field assault, constantly fought with teammates, had an absurd history of dicking his team over with unnecessary penalties, was kicked out of St. Louis for skipping team activities because of drinking. The same guy whose opening act as a dolphin was getting charged with assault. That guy? Yeah no wonder the dolphins cleaned house from the top down. That is a sign of god awful management not a validation of him as a teammate. He may have protected a close inner circle, but he is not the god of the team who gets to make decisions on who belongs and who doesn’t. |
