Mine was a tight-rope to deal with the ligament damage.

But you're probably right. Maybe a sesamoid fracture(s) that required a little hardware to stabilize the area even if the ligaments weren't compromised.

I fractured my proximal fibula and they gave me motrin and said go back to work when you can deal with the pain. A distal break disrupts the stability of the ankle but if the ligaments are good as stated, that's probably the best you could hope for.
