And the talk about Juju all stems from last year when we almost had him.
I think that is the plan for whatever WR they sign.

But I'm with you on the not sure if he's any good comment. He's had an exceptional season in 2018, a decent season in 2020 and the rest are clunkers.

I'm not sure why anyone thinks we should be chasing him other than he's young. I'd much rather have a bigger body in Robinson, who besides last year has produced his entire career with dogshit QB's.
Yeah, I just don't put a lot of stock in TD numbers, especially short TDs.

It's a fair point to say they can be demonstrative of a good season, but they're not predictive. I mean Julio Jones used to get blasted for not having many red zone TDs and I can't think of a guy more suited to that task than he is. By and large they're a product of usage. I don't think they demonstrate a meaningful skill set on their own.

6 of JuJu's 9 TDs came from inside 10 yards in 2020. Meanwhile Julio Jones had 5 of them in his first 4 seasons vs 26 overall. And I don't think anyone would argue that JuJu is a better red zone threat than peak Julio.

They may give an okay snapshot of what someone did - but not a very good data point for determining what they will do going forward. Like QB passing TDs in the red zone, they're just super volatile and there seems to be no predictive value to them. By and large players regress to the mean.

It's white noise, IMO.

I would probably be okay with giving Juju a 3 year deal for around $25-26 million. Something with a lowish cap hit in year 1 and an out after year 2. That gives him some security but allows him to hit the market again at around 28 years old after he's built up his value here.

Spotrac estimates him getting 4/$65, Joel Corry thinks 4/$90.

So you're probably right.

Robinson 's contract year left a lot to be desired. 2021 was Robinson's worst NFL season (other than 2017 when he tore his left ACL in the Jaguars season opener). Robinson had 36 catches for 410 yards with one touchdown in 12 games, which can be attributed to an injury-plagued season where he never established chemistry with rookie quarterback Justin Fields .

Robinson should be the beneficiary of Williams re-signing with the Chargers for a reported $20 million per year and Godwin getting a second franchise tag from the Buccaneers. The disappointing season isn't going to change what the salary expectations should have been prior to playing 2021 for $17.88 million as a franchise player because Robinson had the NFL's fourth-most receptions (200) and receiving yards (2,397) over the 2019 and 2020 seasons.

A lackluster contract year didn't prevent wide receiver Kenny Golladay from his big payday in free agency last year, although his market was slow to develop. Nonetheless, the Giants signed Golladay to a four-year, $72 million contract (worth up to $76 million through incentives) with $40 million of guarantees.

Expound.

Byron Pringle is a damn physical WR. Why do you think he's been so valued on special teams?

Pringle has never shied away from contact and in fact some of his most impressive moments have been when he's shown a willingness to get blasted to complete the play.

I don't think Pringle is more than a JAG really, but I also don't think it's fair to say he's not a physical player. That's really one of his top selling points.

Getting Robinson sounds like it's too good to come true. Getting JuJu for less would be a fine addition

Veach would be going against history since he doesn't hand out longer, larger deals to players who are Robinson's age.

I'm good with that.

Especially if that 'out' after year 2 isn't really a foregone conclusion. If it's a deal that provides us year 1 cap relief and a meaningful team option in year 3 instead of one of those 'oh yeah, he's getting cut there' years.

That way we can see if he can rediscovery his form here in year 1, maybe eat a little shit in year 2 if he can't before cutting him prior to year 3 OR get some really nice benefits from him in that third year if he CAN recapture his early career success.

Basically. And I don't see why Juju wouldn't sign that. He took a one year, prove it deal last year and didn't prove shit because of injury. Could he go back to Pittsburgh? Sure. But why the **** would he?

Offer him that three year deal and it gives him the security of having a place for the next two years. He'll be an in an offense with a legit QB and other weapons to help open him up. Plus a HC that's known for maximizing potential.

I have to do the double read every time anyone mentions signing Robinson…

I think to myself,
Demarcus?! WTF?! Then re-read. Oh Allen! Good deal!

Isn't JuJu around 6'2 230? He's a thickly built receiver and he delivers blows. Idk how to embed videos but that block on Vontaze Burfict comes to mind

They could make a couple of moves over the next week or two, after they get that bonus money restructured, that would improve the team.

1. Sign Juju.
2. Sign Kyzir White.
3. Sign a younger DE like Arden Key, Lorenzo Carter, Dorance Armstrong Jr.. Hell....even Derek Barnett would help.

Those moves wouldn't be expensive but they'd help fill in a couple spots on this roster. Then grab a DE and DT in the draft and bring in a veteran DE afterwards to round out that DE group.

He's not that big but he is a bigger WR. Built more like a RB IIRC...

The fact that Mathieu wasnt offered a contract makes me think he wouldnt be welcomed back.

Sweat hasnt really produced even at Frank Clarks level but i guess he is cheaper.

And JuJu might be realizing that he is just a complimentary weapon. He is what we hoped robinson would be. Never going to take over a game, but more than capable of the lay ups.
