But you're looking at it in a vacuum. It's not about this one move as bad as you want to make it out to be. It's just one piece of the puzzle.

Is your grasp of reality in non-football related things as shaky as it is around here? Or are The Chiefs just your blind spot?

Smith is a plus player. Period. The market goes up every year, and will go up considerably at all positions THIS year especially.

Barely. He's BARELY a plus player. Spending that type of cap annually on a position you should easily be able to backfill with any of Morris, Suamataia, or Nourzad is a ****ing waste. Has Andy Heck really ****ed the development of these guys THAT much that they won't even try to give them jobs on the interior? Publicly pay lip service to their potential inside and yet spend what will be in the range of 40+ million on Humphrey and Smith.

Everyone outside of Chiefsplanet disagrees with you. EVERYONE.

He's the #1 OL Free agent on everyone's list.

So whatever. You have no idea at all what you're talking about, just spouting wild conspiracy theories and accusations without having a fraction of the truth.

Calm down, Francis. Be glad cooler heads than yours are in charge.

I'm not even saying they SHOULD do this-I'm saying freaking out because there's a report that he's 'a priority' is stupid.

Even you two think this move would suck. You've both edited disclaimers into your posts about it.

This is true. I think Teven Jenkins would be equally as sought after if he could just be healthy but nope...

Found this top 100 by PFT, they have Smith as the 3rd overall FA available.

https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profoo...d-top-the-list

All that said, I still have reservations about signing him long-term to the contract we all know he will require. Seems illogical.

I would love it if we finally fix the offense and spend resources on it.

Still would not like the cap number at 20 plus on Trey

I don’t love the thought but I’ll also be the guy banging the drum all summer that it doesn’t matter who they **** they sign, if they nail the draft they’ll be back in the Super Bowl and probably multiple times over the next few years

If they whiff bad in this draft, they won’t make it next year

Again, Philly has been paying everyone for years now. The reason they won this year was the recent drafts. Just as was the case for KC in the years prior.

Fun to banter and debate contract signings, ultimately isn’t going to be the big needle mover.

I somewhat disagree...

For the most part, draft picks generally don't pay enormous dividends in the first year. You might get something really good from round 1 and some day 2 contributors but not huge needle movers. What we got from 2022 is strangely abnormal.

This team is likely to be a product of what happens in FA in 2025. The draft will pay bigger dividends or have a more profound negative effect down the road.

The only advantage to trying to sign your own is the lack of competition from the open market and you get more time. I still think you need to be selective in who you try to bring back and at what price.

Trey Smith got 5 All Pro votes and was close to making 2nd team All-Pro at RG and people are about 2 days from calling the guy a JAG.

He’s a plus player. Not elite, but a plus player. I don’t see a problem with saying that.

I can already see posters here comparing a Trey Smith contract to Frank Clark. We all know it’s coming

Who's ever said he was an outright bad player? He's not. He borders on good to great with a couple of games that he's inexplicably bad. That's been his pattern for pretty much his entire career. That's not a guy you reset the market for, especially at that position.

While I’ve been clear that I want a rookie contract at RG, hard for me to have too strong of an opinion without knowing the plan for LT.

And acting like this is based off one report is disingenuous at best. There's been more smoke about extending Trey Smith in particular than all the other pending free agents combined. Hell, out of Veachs own mouth today he's the top priority currently.
