Unpopular Thought: Trade McDuffie

The Chiefs latest dynasty run was a direct product of the Tyreek trade. Now money is tight, draft resources are slim, and the young players from Veach's great recent drafts are getting to the age to be paid so will be leaving soon. And that's aside from the glaring need for a franchise LT.

Any chance we could get back what makes it worthwhile to give him up this offseason?

Paying McDuffie atop the league at CB is not something you regret.

Paying Karlaftis near top of the market for pass rushers… you most likely will. But the only way you’re going to get that guy close to what he’s really worth is by paying him early.
They will continue to trade players for more picks to replenish the roster. They did with Tyreek. They did with Sneed.

Somebody will be next.

it's not realistic to assume that we are going to keep everyone from those 2 drafts

They traded Tyreek and didn't pay a 3rd contract.

Sneed had the knee issue and they just drafted McDuffie.

They won't trade McDuffie. They paid Creed, they'll pay him.

We don’t have many of those on this roster currently aside from Mahomes, Rice, Worthy, McDuffie, and Humphrey.

I don’t wanna trade McDuffie, just saying not many to choose from with those current guidelines

They try to sign all their good players. They’re just a lot better than other contenders at drawing hard lines and deciding when it’s better to let them go in favor of offsetting capital.

Same will be true moving forward. It’s just a lot easier with a guy like McDuffie to get the deal done because if he says he wants a penny more than Pat Surtain…. Well, I don’t think it’s that big of an issue.

George is the next one that I find intriguing. Knowing that he’s 24 entering next year and has another two full years of what we will call cheap contract control… what offer would you present to him this summer? Or would you even yet?

I’m not touching the $24M range that Montez Sweat and Rashan Gary got. That’s trade territory next summer if he insists on that type of money. But if he will take something like $15-20M per year? I probably do that. Still think his best football is ahead of him.

Rashee was going to have a huge year. 11 TD’s, 1,600 yards was his pace which would be top 5.

If he had that season next year and demanded a top 5 contract which is $30+ million then I’m not confident Veach would give it to him

And we offered him a massive contract and his agent ****ed up. All of that is admitted now.

WE don't need to trade anyone. We need to sign a LT, draft a RB and fill the roster with the rest of the draft.

He certainly blew any shot he had to get paid early last summer.

He needs to ball the **** out for 2-3 straight years with zero off field nonsense before I’d even think about going $25M+.

Disagree about the comment about you won't regret paying McDuffie but you would if you pay Karaliftis. With FAU not really panning out and Jones getting older no way in hell you let Karalfitis go unless you draft someone like Green in this draft and he shows out

I’m all for paying him, I’m just not paying him top of the market money. He’s not in that class, you can’t pay just any number and not feel the impact of it negatively.

Knowing Chiefs history, he’s probably about to go out and have a 18.0 sack season which will back us into quite the corner.
