Yes, very effective. The tighter pattern made for a very quick clean humane kill and not one piece of shot in the breast meat. He was a quite tasty bird when smoked

Last Sunday was a GREAT day of bowhunting. I Took this guy right at 40 yards when I stepped out of my blind to leave for the day. It was very quick and I had to beat daylight.

It was also very challenging because I didn't have anyone to help me with this 200+ pound buck. In the end, the freezer is full of the most natural and organic meat there is.

Have you been able to take any shots yet? It seems like they are moving early this year.

I am probably heading out in a little bit.

Last night was my first sit, as I have been and will be stupid busy with work.

I had a great 3hr sit last night. Saw 11-12 bucks and 4 does. 1 shooter at last light but 100yds away. Could have shot 3-4 but none were over 130.

That said, if last night had been my first hunt I would have probably never stepped into the woods again. I left work in a scramble and didn't have my shit together the way I should have. Went to the woods under dressed for wind and rain, basically no cell phone battery, forgot my light. Because there were deer in the field and I had heard a couple of bucks fighting close I sat until it was very dark so I didn't get busted.

As I tip toed along the edge of a been field along a terrace in the dark with no light, I thought I saw deer shapes that didn't turn out to be so I went on. The wind was in my face. I was watching what I thought might be does in the field at 50 yards when suddenly I hear a blast of a deer snort and feel the spit and snot hit me in the face. I had walked up close enough to a deer I couldn't see that it did a farmer blow on me as it turned to run off.

At that time I realized I had challenged the functional capacity of my fart separater and had made some kind of very un-manly blest of my own. No. I didn't crap myself but that deer did scare the shit out of me. Getting run over by a buck in the dark has always been in the back of my mind walking in and out of the woods. I have been charged and checked out by cows but never had a deer that close that I couldn't even see.

Seeing major increase in scrape activity. Older scrapes getting worked, newcomers each day. Starting to rub as well. This morning was terrible conditions but did have a small 8 point chasing a doe under my stand for a half hour.my big deer are mostly nocturnal and are sticking close to the thick brush. Does still have fawns with them. Hope this week continues to heat up and the shooter bucks get after it

I'm getting a late start but I'm taking the boys(my Setters) out for a run at Bois D' Arc CA. We pronounce that Bowed Arc. Might find some quail, might not. We'll cover some ground and get some exercise though and that's a good thing. I got an email from the KS Dept of Wildlife saying that there more Pheasants this year in KS. Is That true?

Yes. It is generally true, but they're going to take awhile to truly rebound.

On most of my farm, we've had fox move in and they're pretty hard on the local population. So locally it's not as good as it likely is elsewhere.

Skin market has been down for a long time so the Fox's are thick. I live in the burbs and they're all around here too.

I ran my dogs again today and found a covey. My dog Gus did a nice job finding these birds and held a nice point. I pulled the trigger once and doubled up. Two quail with one shot. Then Call and Hoss were right on the downed birds. There's not many quail so I called it a day after that but the last thing re-learned today was to find a place to park at the bottom so I don't have to walk up hill at the end of the hunt to get to the truck.
