There are sure to be some big changes coming next season.

You obviously wanna prevent them as much as possible especially at critical mass positions (see LT last year)... but there's always going to be something that threatens your team from reaching the goal.

But, is there ever a good reason not to take the BPA on your board in the draft? Assuming it's clear cut who the top guy is.

For example, let's say KC enters the draft with only Tranquill and Leo at LB. In theory the position is relatively weak short and long term. You feel like you should take one early. But it lines up where your BPA by far are guys at RB, DT, CB in some order early on. You never really have a LB on the board you love or think is a long term answer.

Is it not better to just say, well, damn LB might be a weak link we gotta work around for a year, but we're going to turn (insert position) into a mega strength?

You need a bunch of good to great players to win Super Bowls and be a dynasty (see draft classes 2021-22). Does it matter what positions they play, or is it just a race to have 20+ good to great players every year and you figure out how to leverage those strengths best from year to year?
Building on this, like what if Luther Burden is BPA at 31

You're gonna give a little somewhere on the roster but if defenses have to deal with Rice, Worthy, Burden for the foreseeable future...

This is why you wanna try to have a floor option that you can stomach in place anywhere you have a hole going into the draft.

Then just stack good football players.

I agree. I like Kingsley at RG. I actually wish we could get rid of Taylor somehow and put Morris in there. Morris is better at RT than LT and he’s way cheaper than Taylor. Kingsley and Morris played pretty well against Denver and they have a solid dline. Any chance we could trade Taylor for a 7th round pick swap just to get his salary off the books?

I would like to see our oline with this line up next year.

LT: vet LT plus Simmons drafted around 20
LG: Thuney
C: Creed
RG: Kingsley
RT: Morris

Bad idea?

His guaranteed salary would transfer to the new team if they traded him. So, really, yeah it's not the worst idea. We'd eat about 14.8m and gain 12.6m in cap space by trading him. Of course, the Chiefs would have to want to get rid of him and someone would have to want him.

There's gotta be a stupid team out there willing to give up a 3rd for him right? New York Jets? What's his Madden rank?

If it means the light show returns to KC and Mahomes starts smiling out there and having fun and winning MVPs I am all for it. Weve won with elite offenses and elite defenses. Winning is great, all else being equal, give me an elite offense and a happy franchise quarterback. I can deal with a 20ish ranked defense.

I like the idea of replacing Taylor, but putting two unproven guys on one side is way too risky for my taste. I tink we are stuck for one more year at RT.

This. I like Trey, a lot, but he really struggled at times this season. Drafting him in the 6th round and having 4 years of solid to good play from him was incredible value! You ink him to the highest contract for a guard ever (which is what it’s gonna take) and that ‘value’ goes out the window. He’s not worth paying $22 million a year to.

As far as Thuney, I have no doubt the Chiefs are going to try and extend him. He’s still at the top of his game (as a guard), is a MUCH better fit at guard for the Chiefs offense than Trey, and it’ll help lower cap hits for the next 2 years for the O-Line giving the Chiefs some room to maneuver.

I imagine an extension with Thuney would be something in the neighborhood of 3 years, $60 million with at least $35 mil. gtd., which is not bad for a player of his caliber. The guard market is gonna go up significantly after Trey re-sets it.

It makes no sense to re-sign Smith. Replaceable position and the market is too high. I'm surprised any team would pay over $20 million for a guard but that's the price.

The first questions to be answered after Kelce are whether they keep Reid/Bolton. Or both possibly.
