NCAA Tournament Selection Thread

Are you excited to fill out a bracket tonight? I have seriously mixed feelings.

I don't know who's given me worse battered wife sports syndrome: Mizzou Basketball or Chiefs football.

Mizzou is expected to make the NCAA tournament for the first tine since 2013. Nice, but so what? In the last 30 years, Mizzou ALWAYS flames out flamboyantly, usually in its first game - including some horrendous losses to a #11, #13, #14 and #15 seed. And when they do make it far, they've either had to forfeit the season or they get Tyus Edney'ed.

It's hard to be this bad in the first round, but check out this history of futility:

1986: Lost #6 UAB 64-66
1987: Lost #13 Xavier 69-70
1988: Lost #11 Rhode Island 80-87
1990: Lost #14 Northern Iowa 71-74
1993: Lost #7 Temple 61-75
1999: Lost #9 New Mexico 59-61
2000: Lost #9 North Carolina 84-70
2011: Lost #6 Cincinnati 63-78
2012: Lost #15 Norfolk State 84-86
2013: Lost to #8 Colorado State 72-84

Oh and if that isn't bad enough, Mizzou also has a history of flame out in the NIT. They've only won two NIT games in team history. So they don't even have NIT success working for them!

Good luck to KSU Wildcats and Wichita State Shockers.

KU doesn't need any luck. Just ask their fans

I agree it's more thank likely not happening but then again just 2 years ago Middle Tenn a #15 was +2000 ML against Michigan State so if you had said wtf and put $20 on it you would've cashed for $400 and hey I can go through $20 in Vegas in a helluva lot less time than it takes to watch a tourney BB game.

Baseball (and any professional sport) is a completely different animal. There is no comparison. And 15s have beaten 2s. There is literally no precedent for a 16 beating a 1. There is a lot of money to be made in the tournament but not on betting the money line on 16s. However the spread can be very profitable on both sides in those matchups.

There have been several close calls throughout the NCAA tournament history. Any one of those could have ended in a #16 winning. I won't predict it but I think it is bound to happen at some point.

I also remember the #1 seed 2002 Jayhawks being down at halftime to #16 Holy Cross.

So, just because something hasn't happened in the 32 years since the tournament expanded, means that it will never happen?

OK.

It may not be this tournament, but it a 16 seed will eventually beat a 1 seed.

Sure virtually everything is a possibility, not probable though.

I take both off every year. A bunch of people do what we call "BBB" (beer, boobs, basketball) at Twin Peaks and watch games from first tip to last shot. At least with KU playing at 1p on Thursday I'll either be relaxed or pissed off for the rest of the day & have it over with.

I think we all know the first No. 1 seed to lose to a 16 will be Mizzou.

They have to get a #1 seed for that to happen.

That's why it would be the most epic fail of all. They would FINALLY get a No. 1 seed only to have THE historic choke.
