I think mine was Milgram's on Seven Hwy. across from Zarda Dairy.

Mom bought Seitz Hot-dogs and Mac-n-cheese loaf.

Also, bagged cereal. We were poor like the dickens.

My earliest rememberance of the grocery store was the old Food Barn on Mitchell in St. Joseph. I remember walking in and they had a Bubble Bobble arcade game that I played the entire time my mom was shopping.

One thing I miss in Pittsburg, is the old 1106 Drive-In. It had the most amazingly greasy hamburgers and Suzy-Qs, but they were delicious. The original owners ran it for 40+ years, and sold it. It didn't make it two years after that. I grew up in and around Pittsburg, and even though Joplin in now my hometown, I still work in Pittsburg.

Dillions in Wichita, I remember wheat bread, chicken, a gallon of milk, cans of frozen orange juice concentrate, rice, ceriel, potatos, and roast beef. Good stuff!

The old 1106 drive-in restaurant, a Pittsburg landmark since at least the 1960s, was demolished by Johhny V’s Excavation and Demolition Wednesday morning. It had been unoccupied for more than a year. The two adjacent houses also will come down. New owner Megan Mann plans to build a Jimmy John’s Gourmet Sandwiches franchise in their place.

Anyone from Olathe in the 80s? I remember Food 4 Less off Old 56 Highway was one of the first stores. Then there was another one off Dennis I think. But one of the earliest memories was a place called Food Barn. Can't remember exactly where it was...

we went to that Food 4 less all the time; one of my first memories of driving out there from Lenexa. at the time, I was probably....4 or 5, and remembering thinking it was a LONG drive from 95th and I-35. I also remember there being nothing in between Lenexa & Olathe in terms of stuff to look at along the highway

then they build a Food Barn at 95th and Quivera and we started shopping there.

The only thing I remember on the highway between Olathe and Lenexa was the big Lenexa water tower. Was definitely a boring drive lol. So much has changed. I moved to Oklahoma about 10 years ago, but I went back for the Chiefs playoff game. The part of town I lived in (by the Olathe Medical Center) is kind of crappy now...

I always hate to see stuff like that get wiped out, but it's just the way of the world. Every time some old restaurant, drive-in or theater gets torn down or reconfigured into something new and unrecognizable it's like losing a piece of your childhood.
