Felons already can't own guns. As to the rest, you already need ID to buy a gun, and that's all the licensing a person needs. As to your car comparison, how's any of that working out for eliminating car related deaths? I don't know a single person who's been shot to death. I knew several people who have died in car accidents. Including a couple who were run over by cars.

I'll find the full body camera release - it's pretty gut wrenching - knives even in the hands of an amateur are dangerous |

I also like the fact that if a driver injures me, I can collect insurance money. If I’m injured by a gun I can sue, but I’d have to pay for a lawyer. I understand you want to compare the risk of driving with the risk of death or injury by firearm, but we can probably agree there is significantly higher opportunity for car accidents to the average person. There is also more safety regulation on vehicle ownershi and operation.

To each their own, but I would not open carry in urban/suburban environments.
Since fast-draw shootouts a high noon are less common these days, situational awareness is far more important than presentation speed. A few years ago I was in line at a crowded McDonalds, two feet from a dude with a large frame revolver hanging off his hip. Not once during the three minutes I was standing within arms length did he look up from, or take his hands off his Big Mac. With practice, presentation from a good OWB holster with an untucked shirt or light jacket is nearly as quick as most open carry rigs. Draw from an IWB holster might be a second slower. Just not worth the hassle or risk of being the first target.

Alright well luckily the gun show loophole is getting close and apparently Craigslist bans gun sales, but you can purchase a gun from a private citizen without oversight.

It’s being closed, yes. Now those that make money selling guns at shows do a criminal background check.
Not as much regulation as I’d like, but helps keep guns out of criminal hands which a gun advocate in this thread ensured doesn’t happen.

Can't really go much further into that without the thread quickly getting political. |
