Are we worried about our offense?

Being only marginally better than last season? Worthy likely has a higher ceiling and more potential than Hardman but he is unlikely, at least for now, to be a 6-8 target a game guy as an option on the majority of passing plays. Rice is better than Rice last season so that's good. Kelce is probably worst though.

But mostly what I’m fearful about is that losing Brown is going to be a major impediment to the offense being noticeably better than last season. He was likely big in our schemes and philosophy. I know we typically struggle vs the Bengals but as of right now I'm not sure what would make me confident we dramatically improve over last season.

What does everyone think? How can we ensure the significant improvement over last season that it seems we might need?

I'd guess they weren't planning on him having to be this involved until Hollywood went down.

That needs to happen, but there's film on the guy now and everyone knows his weaknesses. He was overwhelmed last Sunday, and now he will be targeted by every team going forward. Now I know Hendrickson is very good, so hopefully other teams will not have as much success as he did. But the Chiefs have very good defensive ends in their division, and on their schedule. So, the Chiefs are going to have to do something because they will lose games directly because of Kingsley's performance if he has more like last Sunday. LT was the biggest problem with the offense Sunday.

What does "light a fire" mean in this context? Do we really think it's a motivational issue?

I'd imagine they're pretty compelled to play hard at this point.

I'd say I'm most worried about the offense and the QB that keeps throwing bad interceptions.

The 2nd round rookie tackle getting beat by an elite pass rusher is...well yeah that's probably somewhat expected. The multiple time MVP QB throwing it to linebackers every game.....isn't.

In the end..it all comes down to OL play IMO.

The cover 2 stuff is beatable, teams know how to beat it. But the routes that need to occur take time and OL's can't block that long these days. Between DE's and such being unreal ahtletes and OL's not being as good as previous years.

Bolton and Tranquil need to be better this week than they have been, or Atlanta will end up with 200 yards rushing.

And hopefully tackling in general will improve, because we gave up several third downs because of missed tackles against the Bengals.

I don't understand how there is no way to effectively pass the ball against that two high safety defense Cincy kept throwing at the Chiefs on Sunday?

Other than the underneath passing game, there is no way to utilize any type of intermediate passing game? The middle of the field?

Running the ball on nearly 55% of the offensive plays... which is what the Chiefs did on Sunday... just seems to be playing right into the strategy of the defense, by minimizing Mahomes/the passing game.

True, and of equal, or perhaps more concern, is their TE's shredding the defense. The Chiefs can't cover them, and everyone in the NFL knows it now.

Corner routes, Rb screens, WR screens, deep vertical passes on the sideline(Rice Td).

The Chiefs did all of this on Sunday. The problem was they didn’t utilize TE’s enough in the middle of the field open zone like the Bengals did.

If they are going to be content to let you run it for 4-6 yards a clip, no there isn't. If you play 2 high and drop your LB's to flood zones, there isn't much you can do other than what the Chiefs did.

The Chiefs don't have a RB who is going to house a screen from 50 yards out..and when you know teams are going to heavily focus on Kelce your options become limited.

And here is the other problem. You need time for corner routes, deep routes and seams to develop but the Chiefs had trouble with that bc Trey Hendrickson was prison raping our rookie LT not allowing Mahomes or the WR’s time.

It also doesn't factor in that when you are in shotgun 85% of the time it's harder to run so you probably get a yard or 2 less on each carry,in a lot of ways you are telegraphing your plays.

And yes OL play is down so when you face a team with an elite pass rusher all of the sudden moving the ball becomes a real issue.

These things lineup and the next thing you know, a few drops, ill timed penalties, a turnover and it's the 4th quarter and you have 10 points.

Drag routes will also beat up Cover 2, but not until they emerge on the far side of the formation.

Especially those hybrid 6s where you have a cover 2 on one side and cover 4 on the other.

You need time to get that guy running the drag from the Cover 4 side into the Cover 2 side to create the numbers advantage.

I'd love to get Worthy in the slot on a shallow crosser where he comes poking out the other side with ahead of steam towards the sideline. You flip that ball up there to let him run under it and then he's got the far side safety to beat up the sideline. It's a massive catch and run YAC opportunity. Especially if the far side corner gets sucked up and screws up his depth.

But you've gotta have 2-3 seconds to get him across the formation for that to work.

There are plenty of ways to beat it. It requires patience to wait for them to open up. A lot of running and check downs. We were effectively doing that until Pat decided to press a little. He wanted to get Kelce involved and burn Taylor Britt for his shit talking. It didn't work out. We know Pat can get ultra safe when needed and know the play calling wasn't up to playoff standards because of the opponent. No need to over react now. If we can beat Baltimore's defense last year with has beens and never weres in the playoffs we can beat this version of the bengals as long as our LT holds up.
