You can at least hold the runner and/or fake throw to 2nd and try to catch guy at 3rd leaning

This is the type of game that you just have to find a way to win. While the Royals are busy swinging at ball four and then striking out, the Yankees are playing small ball and making sure the runner advances.
Really missing Vinnie; they really don't have anyone to bat cleanup and the top of the lineup, Bobby especially, has been struggling. |

Yeah, I don't see a reason not to just load the bases at that point. Why not give yourself better odds at a double play? They must have preferred maintaining lefty-lefty matchup with Chisholm?

I was actually thinking about this as the game went into extras. If you're going to have a runner to start the inning, put them on 1st.

The Manfred runner is great. Nobody likes or has ever liked 13+ inning extra inning games in the regular season (I've been to a few 18 inning MLB games and those had to be among the worst games I've ever attended); it was always absurd. Leave those for the playoffs.

That could be all be true but it still won't change the fact that the Manfred runner was a positive development for baseball.
Just imagine the NHL playing overtime indefinitely in the regular season like they do in the playoffs. Absurd, right? That's what baseball did for over a century and it hurt the players and the fans. |

Baseball implemented the rule directly due to Covid, as it has been a thing in the minors for years, and decided to adopt it permanently in the regular season for reasons that have nothing to do with player or fan safety. It's not like extra innings baseball is something that even happens that often. Maybe ten times per season? A dozen? And how many times do those games ever get to absurd 14+ inning lengths? Rarely. it's a shit rule. And as I said, if they're gonna use a ghost runner at all, start the guy at first base. |

Oh, I'll blame Manfred. For this, and plenty other nickel and dime ways to **** up baseball. Manfred is a cocksucking buffoon who has no place in baseball, and is about the only bozo around who could make Selig look glorious in hindsight.
By the way, what the hell did the Yankees do with RISP tonight? Not too much. We absolutely had our chances. Missed two homers to left field that just wrapped around the pole, plus a 4 foot shot to CF from Bobby, and never could quite get the key hit, so give some credit to Gil for pulling those escape jobs and making pitches when he had to. But **** if I think the Yankees earned this win at all. Plus that Soto horseshit? **** those guys. |
