A better, more accurate 2012 Slogan: It is Finally Next Year
(from Great Expectations)

An alternative slogan if you don't like that one: Someone has to win this crappy division

With the beginning of a new year, it is time for the 2012 version of the Royals Repository Thread. We've got Hosmer, we've got a 2011-dominating Gordon, we've got Moose, we've got hopefully a killer bullpen, we've got a stereotypical slow slugging DH, we've got easily one of the best defensive shortstops in the AL, we've got a promising catcher in Salvador Perez. Hell, we've got offense and promising prospects galore.

We do not have starting pitching.

Oh yeah, we've also got this:



Get ready for, (as of January 2012 anyway), one of the most confusing puzzles of a baseball season in recent Royals history. Will they suck? Maybe, I don't know. Will we be given a year of 0.500 baseball? Possibly, I don't know. Will they win the division and go to the playoffs for the first time in 27 years? For the first time in a long time, it could happen, I don't know. 92 losses, 92 wins, or anything in between would not surprise a lot of us.

Everything goes here except Gameday threads and really big news. If a giant story breaks, the Royals achieve some awesome milestone, or we sign/lose a highly significant player/coach/mascot/whatever, then it might also deserve its own thread. This being Chiefs Planet, please do not clutter the board with new threads about trivial Royals news or you will only annoy those who come here for just Chiefs football. If you aren't sure and its not a Gameday thread, it goes here.

What sort of stuff often goes here? SPchief explained it well, so I'll just copy that:

I was at the game with stellar seats. There were a TON of scouts watching him. Aside from the White Sox (they might have just been there to watch their own team, though I wouldn't think you'd normally put scouts behind home plate at a game you are playing), I saw people from Toronto, Tampa Bay, and 2 other scouts from unknown organizations, everyone with their own radar gun.

Despite that, I don't think we overpaid at all, and I'm not all that bothered at the possibility that we may have been able to put the screws on and saved a few million on a lesser deal.

edit: during interviews, Gordon was correcting people who were asking about his 4 year deal, telling them its a 5 year deal because he fully intends to use the option. Well, OK if thats true, that'd be pretty sweet, but if he rakes we'll see if it happens or not. (hopefully if he's still worth it in a few years, we just extend again to make 2016 not an issue)

Not how a high-quality organization does business anyway, though I'm dubious about the Royals fitting into the previously stated category.

Regarding the interview that Gordon gave on FSKC: dude seemed very level-headed. Knows that he's wealthy, appreciates the right fit for himself and his family, emphasis on the latter by Gordon.

I respect this approach a lot.

We didn't overpay Alex imo either. He said he was going to dominate last year and he did. He's in his prime. He's good to go. So you pay the man to be the cornerstone he was always suppossed to be. If it doesn't work out the Royals still did the right thing. The fact that Alex wants to play here and apparently appreciates the team sticking with him until he "got it" is huge too. It's hard not to like him.

Seitzer working with Gordon was probably my fav off season move before the 2011 season it was like a whole new gordon and not even that his defense in left was outstanding
