It was great. They took the Cantina and turned it on it's head.

The DJ character and the casino was a great way to explore the idea of not everyone being all bad or all good. It served a clear purpose despite what people are saying.

The whole bit about saving the animals and sticking it to the 1%'ers though just felt like they went out of their way to force some ideology or another. It felt like a commercial to me. Like all of a sudden Sarah McLaughlin was going to ask me to donate $100 in an effort to stop animal cruelty.

Luke looking over the Ach-To ocean, before hitting the credits. There was no reason for him to disappear into the Force.

Those three alone wouldn't have made it a "great" Star Wars film but it certainly would have been much more palatable.

My biggest issue was the completely implausible decision to "chase" the Resistance for the entire film. The only reasons thousands of TIE fighters and dozens of Star Destroyers didn't completely stop their escape was because the film would have ended. Even Hux comments on the stupidity of the situation then does NOTHING to rectify it.

Because the ships were running out of fuel.

Should have been said right after Luke survived an all-out barrage from an entire garrison of Walkers. I was actually thinking he was there in the flesh when that happened and it was amazing.

Granted, it's a little weak, but not completely implausible. They do send out tie fighters (hence leia getting sucked out into space), but then are recalled when they are beyond the support of the larger ships. Why not wait for the fleet to simply run out of fuel (which I never even knew was a thing in Star Wars btw) and pick them off? Always with the dark side is an under-estimation of the resistance. They figured they had the thing won. It's thin, but it holds up.

To go with this, I wonder why at no point in any space battle did any star destroyer maneuver into position to stop the bombers, the fleet anything. they all just sat there like a lump on a log and let the big dreadnoughts do everything.

I actually thought something like this was afloat early on. His beard was suddenly not grey and it was trimmed. I thought it was odd that he would take the time to add a little Grecian formula before coming to the aid of the resistance. Then I knew for sure when he whipped out the lightsaber that had just been torn in two between Rey and Ren.

Good, not great. My number 4 behind the OT. Far better than any of the prequels, better than episode 7, but not quite up to RotJ. Started strong, ended strong, off in the middle. I liked Rose as a character, but the side mission with Finn was awful. Made no plot sense, was basically just a contrivance to get us to the Phasma fight, and to throw in some one percenter crap. Which I'm okay with in real life, but please leave in my face political messages out of my space fantasy... Needed more focus on Poe and Laura Dern's admiral holdo. Everything with Luke and Rey was good. Some stunning visuals throughout.

When asked about Snoke's back ground it was hinted we are getting some novels to explore more of his origin

The intent is to provide moviegoers with a sense of pride and accomplishment for buying different star wars books.

Actually agree completely with that. I still think there's a reason why the Kenobi movie isn't hitting theaters until after episode 9.
