"I have a tremendous amount of respect and admiration for Romeo, both personally and professionally," Chiefs Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt said. "He is an accomplished coach, a man of great character and he helped guide our football team through some extremely challenging circumstances this season.

"However, I am embarrassed by the poor product we gave our fans this season, and I believe we have no choice but to move the franchise in a different direction. I will immediately begin the search for the next head coach of the Chiefs. The entire football operation will remain under review, and there may be additional changes to come. No final determination has been made at this point on the future of General Manager Scott Pioli.

"Finally, I want to personally apologize to our fans for our performance this season. We are blessed to play for some of the best and most passionate fans in the National Football League and they deserve better than what we gave them this season. I want our fans to know that I will do everything I can to provide them with a dramatically better team - both next season and in the seasons to come - and our entire organization appreciates their support."

If the Chiefs select Smith and he ends up being what we think he can be, we won't look back on the pick and say the team fell ass backwards into the pick because we know how vehemently some have attempted to disparage the player and argue for franchise (insert less important position).

Cowher and Billick had very different draft windows. No way to know how things panned out had Billick an opportunity at Rapebugger or if Cowher was constrained to pick Boller.

I'm older than you and 95 and 97 were crushing to me, too (esp. 95).

But better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all.

I can't take another season like this one, where I was following a zombie team and felt absolutely nothing when they lost (and got worried when they WON). That sucks. Why bother being a fan? And I like being a fan of teams, no matter how frustrating it can be.

Actually, the 30 for 30 on Bo reminded me of my timeline as a FB fan.

I had little to no exposure to FB early on [mom took the TV to goodwill when I entered grade school, and it didn't return until we bought a Commodore 64 for educational purposes].

My first 'Boy's Life' from Boy Scouts [Nov 1979] had Terry Bradshaw on the cover. That's the first recollection of any type I have of FB.

Didn't have much of an impact.

Through the 80s, I was solidly a Royals fan. Gramps took us to many games, one of my earliest memories was him telling me about the rally cap. At [now] Kaufmann Stadium, I put my baseball cap on inside out in the bottom of the 9th with George Brett at bat and he promptly hit a walkoff HR.

85 huge of course, after that, I split my attention between the Royals and Larry's Jayhawks. Bo as a Royal was actually my entree to FB. I knew not to root for the Raiders, but I sure as shit rooted for Bo.

My first rooting interest in the Chiefs was Dino Hackett in 1988, then Neil Smith and DT came to town and I was sold. Never missed a game, never missed a second of a game, until this year.
