Open Carry

My last two trips to our little town of Branson West resulted in seeing private citizens with a pistol holstered.

I was right behind one in line at the bank and the other one came in to shoot the shit with the barber cutting my hair. The only thing holding the second guys gun in the holster was gravity, no strap.

I am pro gun and all for peoples rights, but why? Why does someone feel they need to be packing heat while running errands?

It makes me pretty uncomfortable to say the least. Is this person stable enough to packing heat? Is he or she sober? Are they worried about a jealous lover or spouse gunning them down? Is there going to be a shootout?

What is your opinion? Are we all going to have to be packing soon? Are we going to regress to 200 years ago, like the wild west?

Who vetted this person to have this weapon in public?

Im a hunter in Ca and if I have to stay at a motel I put my rifle or shotgun in a case and I am completely hiding the fact I am carrying hardware. When I am in Nevada , Idaho or Montana......I can carry my rifle or shotgun on a sling on my shoulder and nobody even blinks. In many areas of Ca I would make people faint in terror

Carrying a gun by itself doesn't make you a great shot, or a ninja, or some non-existent movie superhero, or give you eyes in the back of your head. It only takes a second for somebody to come up behind you, bash you in the head, take your gun and kill you with it. I don't want to be that guy.

For me, carrying a gun is like Fight Club. You don't talk about it. And considering the can of horrible worms you open if you are ever put in a position where you need to use your gun in public, you pray that never happens.

Here's info straight from the Jackson County Sheriff's office. As of January 1, 2017, you do not need to purchase a concealed carry permit for KCMO or anywhere in MO. You can still purchase them if you want, in case you want to be legal for CCW in other states. But you absolutely do not need one anywhere in MO, including KC. House Bill 656 Allows Concealed Carry in Missouri without a permit requirement. Kansas is the same way.

After absorbing the information in this thread, with so much wisdom on the subject, I won't either now.
It was just coincidental I guess, seeing the two consecutive open carry guys on back to back trips to town, after not seeing any in our town the last 13 years. The two couples in the Mexican restaurant were in Kansas.
I am always on a mission to get shit done when going and pay virtually no attention to others, unless I see someone that needs help, but these two triggered my attention. Especially the second guy, as gun safety was taught to me at an early age by my Father and Boy Scouts.

Thank you. I was planning on going to the link provided in jdubya's YouTube video later, but this is very interesting. The law is even more relaxed than any information I found earlier.

If I carry in a city environment, I conceal, I don't open carry. If I'm in grizzly country, I have my .500 S&W and I have a chest holster for that. That would not be an easy gun to conceal. As far as I'm concerned, open carry pretty much makes you a target in a city environment, in a dicey situation.
Open carry has a certain amount of deterrent to it, but my issue with it is it also is likely to make a person the first one shot is something bad does occur. Paints a shoot me first target.

Witnessing open carry doesn't bother me at all. I'm more interested in what they are carrying than anything else.

And the other is Jeremy Black, my old roommate in KC, shot outside a nice DC restaurant in front of his wife and kids.

That's two families I know personally who have been utterly shattered, and you can add in Lisa Lopez-Galvan's family. None of them would have been helped by more guns.
Many more people have been saved by carrying a gun.

I'd guess you know more people who have been killed by a vehicle than by guns. Why aren't you afraid of cars?

Wrong. It doesn't routinely happen here. Despite what your bias says, it is a rare occurrence.

If you are a resident of Arkansas you can carry concealed without a permit in the state.

Can we get the same regulations on guns as there are on cars? Extensive training required. Licensing and frequent renewals of licensing. Insurance on guns for liability. Mandates on maintenance and safety factors. Revocation of licensing if you’re a criminal or lack any of the above. Restrictions on where vehicles can be.

You can conceal carry without a permit. Doesn't matter if you are a resident or not.

Same with Montana. The only reason I have a CC, is it allows me to carry in several other states.
