Mahomes for sure... tap the brake a bit on Mayfield.

I’m the same way, don’t like Baker and want to see more...

But the fact that he brought the Browns back from a two score deficit.. that’s big time. He really energized that city. Time will tell, and we’ll see how he does as teams gameplan for him specifically.

I will say that at his current height, he’s going to have to be pin point accurate or use his legs to be consistently great.

On the longer TD to Kelce, Mahomes screwed up the formation and essentially literally drew a play up in the sand...

https://www.kansascity.com/sports/sp...218786700.html

Quote:
He had called the wrong formation in the huddle. On the way to the line of scrimmage, Kelce gave Mahomes a heads-up.

“So I had to try and fix the guys at the line of scrimmage,” Mahomes said on 810. “Kelce kind of alerted it to me early. So we fixed guys at the line of scrimmage, and when I did that, it accidentally confused their defense, because it changed the strength and everything. So we got everybody in the right spot.

“And then Kelce, of course, we saw … they rotated to the Cover-2 type coverage and he took the middle of the field, and I knew if I just put it out there, he would have a chance to make a big play. Of course, he made a great catch and scored a touchdown on it.”

Why? Nobody bats 1.000.

I mean this is effectively no different than "Why should you worry about Matt Cassel? He drafted Tom Brady."

If we keep losing our OCs, at some point we're gonna hit on a guy who just isn't as good. I figure Kafka gets the next shot at it and maybe he won't be at the same level. Personally, I think the hands-on approach he's had with our triggerman and the amount of time he's personally invested in Pat Mahomes makes that unlikely - but it's not impossible.

Bienemy seems outstanding right now. I actually worry a little bit about Hill talking about how much simpler it is on the sidelines - simple has a shelf life. But Reid will work with him as well and if things start to get figured out, Reid will assist with adjustments.

I will concede that the concerns seem unnecessary at this point - I just don't see why it was unreasonable to have them.

My girlfriend is not a huge fan of football so she'll placate me by watching the games. It's weird to see the look you get when you explain this is what I've been waiting my whole life for.

Based on Arians comments, Payton comments, and Texans war room photo...it sure looks like Dorsey traded to the exact perfect spot to get Mahomes. There were 3 other teams at 11-13 who really wanted him.

I think Payton is full of shit when he says the corner was higher on Saints list than Mahomes. He was drooling at the chance to put this phenomenal talent in a QB room with Drew Brees for a few years. Instead he ends up with Bridgewater lol

Here's the funny thing - I actually think Mayfield was the safe choice. Darnold and even Rosen were the risks, IMO.

His style of play is more reckless, to be sure, but in this era it will also work to put up 24 points with relative ease if you have enough weapons for him to work with. He's not going to turtle up and put too much pressure on your defense. He's also not going to just say "eh, **** it - football ain't my thing" and start jaking matters.

Mayfields floor kinda looked to me like Jay Cutler with less raw arm strength. And Cutler is polarizing, but Cutler could produce. Give Cutler better body language and he wouldn't be seen as nearly the butt**** he is today.

Darnold's floor, OTOH, is absolutely Matt Cassel. He's a programmed quarterback and if the programming doesn't come together, he's nothing. Josh Rosen's floor is Jay Schroeder.

To me, Mayfield was the safest of the early QBs and I think Darnold has the highest ceiling. Time will tell.

Darnold was a turnover machine in college despite a roster full of 5-star talent. Same goes for Deshaun at Clemson. Both of them play like Favre but they have about half the arm strength of Favre.

There were some decision making risks with Darnold, to be sure. I just liked his potential as a pure pocket passer more than Mayfield. If I were going pure upside (which I would've been doing at 1.1 in all likelihood) I think I'd have gone Darnold and hoped to coach the bad decisions out of him.

Rosen would've been the safest choice because he was the most polished guy. Maybe I simply got tricked by the narrative because I've obviously never talked to the guy, but there's a chance he really doesn't give a shit about football and in the event things get rocky, you can't lead with that attitude and he may simply pack his shit and shut it down.

Oh, side note - anything OU related can die in an AIDS fire. So, y'know, there's that.

I could read his post 47 more times and still have no idea how you read it the way you do.

He's clearly saying "Andy doesn't promote the guy if he doesn't get it because he's never done it before".

USC isn't really a 5 star factory anymore, he had Ronald Jones and JuJu Smith for a year..other than that, really not a whole lot.

They have as much 5-star talent on paper as anyone besides Bama and Ohio State over the last 5 years. I know this much. You give college Pat Mahomes the USC talent and he probably wins a national title.
