Because of all the interest in this thread, I've place all of the video content of Patrick Mahomes II's college career, and draft day goodness into a single post that can be found here. Enjoy!

Unfortunately, they don't really "watch" the games like coaches do. I watched quite a few of Big XII games, and I know that Mahomes was definitely NFL QB material, because he has the QB size and the arm, and the legs. The only question was how he was on the mental side. I'd like to point out that it's not Mahomes fault that Texas Tech had a historic bad defense during his time.

And the 2017 NFL draft, in the top 9, I can only think (off of my head) one team that needed a QB, which was the Bears. They had Hoyer, Cutler, and Barkley as their QB's. So the top 9 teams were not QB needy teams, outside of Chicago.

And KC had enough ammo to move up to take Buffalo's spot. So you can say a little luck was involved in this as well.
Yet there WERE teams in the NFL draft that considered Mahomes a day 3 talent. Seriously. The QB gurus, on the other hand, were in love with him.

This is why there are good teams and bad teams.

Veach said they would have taken him 1.1

Yep, not a coincidence that the same shitty teams at the top of the draft every year also have shitty QB coaches, etc.

Can you imagine trying to keep cool through the first nine picks waiting to pull the trigger on that trade? Especially after the Bears traded up to get Trubisky. I think I would have panicked thinking there was about to be a run on QBs. I don’t care if it was Veach that scouted him and wanted him. Dorsey has balls of steel to sit there cool as a cucumber until number 10.

I don’t know about all the teams ahead of pick 10 that year but most of all, Buffalo will likely be kicking themselves in the dick over that decision forever.

Take back a few different moves and they could have had Mahomes throwing to Watkins, Goodwin, and Robert Woods. Cordy Glenn would still be their LT, and they could have kept guys like Darby, Dareus, and Ragland on defense.

Instead they have Josh Allen. Throwing to... Benjamin? Only positive for them is Tre White.

That is one knock on him, and I can understand that due to past history. My argument on that was

Kingsbury
Harrell
Symons

Those three (off of my head) were good, but their skill set was nowhere even close to Patrick Mahomes. I do vaguely recall that those guys did the one/two read on that offense, where I did see Mahomes using the whole field.

I only had concerns on the mental aspect of the game, and I was not privileged to that kind of information.

I would have no doubts on that. If Andy says he wants him, then you do what Andy asks of you, because of his ability to be a great QB guru. I mean, hell, he made mediocre QB's look decent, and he hasn't had a legitimate QB since McNabb.
