Let's Talk About the Cheaters (AKA Patriots Week)

Nothing would make me more happy to get on track with a huge win against the most fraudulent organization in the NFL in their own building. Need Pacheco, Smith, Tranquill, and Cook back soon. Also, need Bolton to play his usual snap count.

Could be the last time Reid and Belichick faceoff. Time to put Belichick out of his misery and send him into retirement.

Chiefs - 30

Spygaters - 3

Ahem:
Covid - Chiefs were sequestered in a hotel in KC for like a week and flew in to Tampa to play the SB the day before the game. Buccs were able to sleep in their own beds and play in their home facility. That in and of itself is a huge mountain to climb that Brady never had to.

Injuries - It wasn't just the OT's, as I recall our whole OL was basically backups, only one player was a starter at the beginning of the season.

Mental bullshit - Coach Reid's son, the LB coach, almost killed a little girl 2 days before the game because he was drunk driving. If you think that has no impact on top of everything else that was going on, well...I don't know what to tell you.

Brady always benefits from serious luck. He's the luckiest QB in the history of the league. He's the GOAT of luck...

**** that guy.

Preach that shit man! The Donks were not good that day. The Chiefs offense was just dying to give them a win. Yay them I guess.

The defense was NOT the problem that day.

Remember the Charlie Weis quote from SI? “We knew all your calls, and you still stopped us. I can’t believe it.”

And this doesn’t sound like a common occurrence either, based on the quotes:

“At one point we had a good drive going against the Patriots,” said one Lion who doesn’t want his name involved in this mess, but was willing to talk about it. “Mike Martz really had ’em going. They were getting fouled up, lining up wrong, we were moving the ball. Then boom, the headset from the sidelines to the coaches’ booth goes out.
“Next possession we were moving the ball again and the same thing happened. You know it only takes two or three plays to mess up a drive.”
Matt Millen, the Lions’ GM, was talking to Bengals’ coach Marvin Lewis at the league meetings. He started telling him the story.
“Yeah, I know,” Lewis said. “Headset went out. It happened to me in Foxboro, too.”

More from the same article:

As for why Eric Mangini wouldn’t simply set up a dummy system to beat Bill Belichick’s videotaping scheme? Apparently he did, according to an unnamed former Pats employee who talked to Dr. Z.

“He had three sets of signals being given, one real, two dummy. He had the same thing going when he beat the Patriots last year. But still, it means extra work, changing the way you prepare for a game. It means both clubs are not playing on the same level field, and that’s what’s wrong about it.”

Weird that Mangini only used this dummy system vs the Patriots, no?
Also, there were reports from multiple sources that suggested NE had mics in the opponent's locker room.

Mike Edwards (illness) returned to practice today. We did not spot Isiah Pacheco (shoulder) and Donovan Smith (neck) out there.

I bet Bailey Zappe could throw for 1 td and 1 int in a postseason like Tom Brady did in his first SB.

I'm hoping we can handle New England's passing game without Edwards in the lineup.

He's back at practice and will play.

Chiefs have a fully healthy defense sans Cook.

We're gonna murder NE.

In fact, Brady is just barely above .500 as a QB in Super Bowls not counting the ones he won when the Pats were Spygating. You are dismissing Spygate as not a big deal, but I think it was much much much worse than you realize. The Don Van Natta and Seth Wickersham ESPN report in 2015 sheds light on what actually happened, not the Goodell/NFL version.
i know plenty about the whole deal, including Wickersham's take and I don't trust him any farther than I could throw him. And while I concede that Bill was bullheaded/stupid about not caring about the "don't film from here" memo the fact remains that you could have stood right in the exact same spot with a camera that took burst pics of the signals and done so without penalty. You could have obtained the same basic info as with a video camera the primary difference being convenience. Yes, convenience. For a damn intern who has to collate the stuff. That is all it was but the molehill became a mountain because we won tons of games every damn year and folks got sick and tired of it and started seeing Nazis in the woodpile.

We were the exception to parity and Roger got tired of that and had a bunch of people like Jerry Jones, who wanted another trophy, and he and his faction were lobbying hard to put the jackboots to our necks. Goodell saw a way to shut Jones & Co. up and give the fans around the country hope, not to mention a boost in ratings and revenue. Follow the money and you will find Roger every damn time he does anything.

The intel gleaned from this stuff doesn't mean much of anything. It's crossing the t's and dotting the I's in case an opponent slips up. The whole effort to learn signals can be negated with coded counter measures the likes of which can be seen on the sidelines of every High School football game in the country. "We're going with Spongebob this series and SnoopDog, next".

It ain't rocket science and was never, ever relevant to the Pats winning football games, but.....believe what you want to believe.

I haven't thought much about it in years. It used to really piss me off, but the only emotion I feel now is embarrassment for the people that are still worked up over it. You need a license to catch a fish, but any idiot can be a football fan.
