All you need to do is go get a bottle of that good Lucas transmission fluid. Then you take off the fan shroud. Get the engine to start one more time the way you were. Pour the trans fluid on the fan and be sure to really lube it up good. You don't want the fan seizing when you're trying to start it, which is probably the issue.

Why are you putting less 25 percent on there? I'm sure that shop is at least 100 an hour. You're dumb. |

That does seem rather expensive for a starter. I was going to say when he was having issues starting that it might be the starter pawl (sp?) in the steering column like what happened on my 1988 F150. Would only start when I turned the wheel a certain way and then it broke completely. used a pair of vice grips to engage the starter switch.
The fuel economy seems really off; I have a 1998 Jeep ZJ 5.2 that gets 17mpg on the highway and it has 257K miles on it. And it's full time 4 wheel drive. Is that he same 2.3L they put in the Fox body Mustangs? Slap a turbo on it and put a more aggressive camshaft... |

pricing for starter Advance offers 20% discount to public.
O'reilly (House brand) new is $162 less shop discount, plus shop mark up = total parts price. I estimate between $207 and $250 Test system and RandR starter+ 1 hour. $85 to $100 207 + 85= $292 + 14 tax is $306 250 plus 100 = 350 +18 tax is $368 If I work a common matrix using reman starter pricing it works out to $275. What does your business matrix mark up for parts?

You can still get quality rebuilt starters and alttenators from Allen Armature and Electric on 18th street in KCK. Allens will test and install if you choose.
These huge auto parts franchises in the 80s started contracting rebuilders to exclusivly rebuild to their specs for them. My Dads best buddies owned Central Armature and electric off Wornall Rd in Waldo. Western Auto came to him wanting he to exclusively rebuild for them, they dictated to him how and what windings and brushes to use. He told the to get ****ed thats not a rebuild and that he wouldnt soil his reputation by not doing it right. Of course they found one who would. Roy retired and sold the business in the 2000's as his sons choose not to take over the business. It folded 2 years later it was a shame it was a well respected business.
