Would getting the 2nd seed actually be benificial?

If the Chiefs get the 2nd seed...they can likely rest their starters week 18. That game would be against the Donks...fighting for their post-season lives. If Denver were to win, they would play a rested KC the very next week @ Arrowhead. Two weeks to game plan in earnest while playing vanilla in the first meeting...Donks cant hold anything back.

Conversely, there is a chance the Ravens might be the lowest seed remaining after the first week of the play-offs. They would travel to the Bills. KC might see the Texans in week 2...

Bills lose to Ravens, KC gets HFA for the AFCCG...

Chiefs are in a good position to get a least some rest either way...obviously a first round bye is preferable but the 2nd seed might not be terrible either.

No, they can rest there starters for most of week 18, have a nice little bye week, have homefield advantage, and they'd only have 2 games to play before the SB instead of 3 games. Getting the bye lessens the chances of having injury.

Yeah...obviously. ..but that might entail a path of playing both the Ravens and Bills again.

Those are the two best AFC teams of the six options...

Just saying...it might not be that bad of a scenario.

Just to be clear...my OP wasnt saying KC should opt for the 2nd seed.

It was more about how the 2nd seed could work out to their advantage too....if that scenario plays out.

Chiefs have 4 final games against potential play-off teams...it's not as easy of a finish as it seemed in week one.

First round bye for a team that had an early season bye, guaranteed HFA throughout the playoffs, and only needing two wins to get to the Super Bowl… no brainer preference is the #1 seed.

The question is how much does KC show the Steelers/Texans that close to the post-season? There is some strategy at play here..

That will be the reason the Texans win imo. They will play the regular season match up Vanilla.

Chiefs need HFA this year. Defense travels well in the playoffs and ours is not as good as last years.

They need 1 less game as well.
