So much fun, never a doubt
5+ weeks ago, I lost my oldest son (of 5 kids, aged 22 yrs) to suicide - posted about it here: https://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/show...php?p=17721812
Tonight, I got to watch this game with my 3 youngest kids (daughter just turned 11, and my 2 youngest sons aged 13 & 16) to the end. This was the most fun I've had since our tragedy. Football might just be a game, and it is... And we as fans get WAY too involved with "our team" - but for me and my kids, this game was cathartic. I got to sit back and say "I'm not worried, we have Mahomes" while my kids freaked out. Love my Chiefs. |

I'm sad to say I didn't really believe we'd win in OT. The team looked absolutely spent. Offense had just gotten kicked in the teeth. Defense looked gassed and lost.
When Mahomes hit that pass to D-Hop though, it was clear what was happening.

Condolences and I'm glad the Chiefs were able to give you that. I had a similar personal loss when my mom passed suddenly a few years back and watching her favorite team play each week (and later go on to win it all) was certainly a welcome distraction that year.
The pain does get easier to bear over time. |

Got a snap towards the end of the game from a packer fan. She said something about the game and I replied "meh". She asked, aren't you nervous? I said nah, seen this too many times.
She also started the conversation saying we aren't playing anybody. It's funny. Before, we all knew how it would turn out. Now, we still all know how it's going to turn out. Just the opposite.

I am so sorry for your loss. To share my own story around loss and the Chiefs, my parents were both huge Chiefs fans - would tell stories about the Len Dawson days... I was born into rooting for this team. Their health was poor the last years of their life and In June of 2022 I had to put them in a nursing home. By the end of July, they both got Covid. My dad got out of quarantine the day before the first preseason game of that NFL year. I went to see him and mentioned - hey dad the Chiefs play sat. I was thinking I would go over and watch some of it with him. Well, the next day he crashed and we spent a couple of days in the hospital at his bedside just waiting for him to pass away. Hi last night on earth was the night of the very first preseason game of the season - the Raiders were playing. They say hearing is the last thing to go, so we turned the game on so my dad could have that comfortable familiar sound. Shortly before he died, I whispered in his ear "hey dad, when you get up there can you help the Chiefs win the Superbowl? And if that is too much, can you make sure they at least beat the Raiders?". He passed away a few hours later. Fast forward, mom got sick too and it fried what was left of her kidneys. I took her home on hospice in December of that season. Through the playoffs she declined and by the week of the Super Bowl she was fairly unresponsive. My brother, my Aunt and I had a little Super Bowl viewing party with mom in her hospital bed next to us. I hope she could hear, and at the end I whispered in her ear "hey mom, The chiefs won the Super Bowl". She died the next afternoon. Ironically , the day right in between the Chiefs winning and my parents 52nd wedding anniversary.... I don't believe in coincidence... My parents passed away exactly one NFL season apart - first preseason game to the Super Bowl. Anyway - the 22-23 season ending in the Chiefs defeating the Eagles in the Super Bowl will forever be a bond with my parents as our lasting connection. Chiefs football ran deep - still does. It is funny how something that seems as silly as a football game can bring people together like not much else can.
