Omenihu -- Jones -- Karlaftis

That's a NASTY odd front, right?

Now behind that you have Bolton and Tranquill in the middle with Uche and Chenal at OLB.

BOTH of those guys can get down on the line and as a defense, you have no earthly idea which one it might be. And both of them can get back into short zones. And you don't know which one THAT will be. You're probably looking at a 4-3 front when the play actually starts...but you don't know that.

And because Spags is a lunatic, at any given point you could send BOTH to the line and run a 5-2-4. And if you send that out there with a 3-safety sort of heavy look with Bolton or Tranquill at MLB, you could go with a 5-1-5, 4-2-5, 3-4-4 and just about any goddamn lunatic defensive look in between.

Spags can have a FIELD DAY with this guy because he can play up or down. So can Chenal. And you have safeties that can play back or in the box. You have guys in Omenihu, Jones AND Karlaftis that can all play inside or out.

It's a seemingly impossible defense to pigeonhole and a pre-snap look is just masturbating at that point - why bother? You have no idea what they're ACTUALLY going to run.

It's a hilariously variable defense.
Yup. Not trying to go too far here, but he wasn’t used properly this year.

If he busts out this year you gotta try to keep him if you’re the Chiefs. Maybe he’ll go for what we have Omenihu? He’s got the potential to be the best player on the DL not named Chris Jones.

Watch how many highlights there are of him putting some guy in a blender and the back of the defense just pooping on its shoes.

With even mediocre coverage behind him, his sack numbers would've been way up the last couple years and you can see it a quick as a hiccup when you watch the clips of him.

And we gave up so little to get him, we won't feel compelled to force him into a 3-down role or anything where we're asking too much of him.

Gimme 25-30 snaps/gm at full tilt from Uche and he'll put up an 8-10 sack/season pace here pretty easily. We have 10 games left, right? So 5-6 sacks seems like a really makeable target for him.

Actually, Felix has one of the teams best pass rush win rates.

This move has very little to do with Felix and more to do with where BJ Thompson is at and what the staff believes we need to win the Super Bowl.

Yeah, no. It has **** all to do with FAU. He's actually earned himself a lot more playing time since the bye. They acquired a decent player that fills one of the few roles we lacked on the defense for peanuts

FAU has made strides but he's not going to be the pass rusher we need this year. I don't think it's about him though when you also have Danna battling injuries this year.

Wasn’t FAU supposed to - at a minimum - slot in as that regular 3rd down pass rush specialist? With Danna playing earlier downs?

I would argue it says A LOT more about FAU than BJ Thompson. I can’t believe anyone is throwing that out there.

FAU is more of an all around defender that wins when he’s asked to rush the passer, but is learning to be responsible to his run defense assignments to stay on the field more and more.

Joshua isnt an every down guy like that, he’s a pass rush package rusher that’s highly effective in that role.

They obviously had plans this year to get Thompson more involved as that speed rush demon role that they wanted when they drafted him.

Hopefully BJ can step in next year to fill that role…but this year Josh gets to eat.
