Creating a new thread for soccer discussion since the Euro’s are done.

Most leagues are in preseason and Sporting KC are currently in a battle for the best record in the league to win the shield. We just sent Busio who’s a young Sporting youth academy player and possible future American star to Venezia to compete in the top division in Italy for a 6.5 million dollar transfer fee with up to $11 million with incentives and a 20% future sell-on rate if they sell him to another team. Not to mention another past youth academy player from Lee’s Summit and another possible World Cup starter Erik Palmer-Brown looks to be joining him at Venezia soon as well. If you’re looking for an Italian team to start rooting for with your new Paramount+ subscription they would be a good candidate with some local flavor.

The U.S has built a little power shift in the CONCACAF region with their wins over Mexico lately in Nations and Gold Cup finals and look to be in really good shape heading into the World Cup qualifiers next month.

Messi looks to be on the move as well. Let’s hope it’s not a worthless one to PSG for everyone’s sake.

For the first time since 1957, Canada beats the USA on American soil.

Jonathan David with the winning goal after Jacob Shaffelburg scored the opener.

A standout performance for the Larin-David pairing after struggling for a while.

Time to get the guys off the team that have no heart. That was pretty pathetic. Some of those guys didn't look like they wanted to be out there.

Against a scrub team with an interim manager? It’s really tough to find motivation for matches like these. It reminded me a lot of the Raiders game. Obviously it’s a “rival”, but with nothing to play for and much bigger things on the horizon it’s hard to really blame a lot of the players for lacking enthusiasm in a match like that.

If Canada is a scrub team, what does that make the team ranked 6 spots below them in ELO and losing to them at home?

USA had the same meek performances at the Copa as today. This was nothing new.

Marsch, a former U.S. international who was in the running for the U.S. job on an earlier occasion, has been quizzed at length about the American program in recent weeks. He made it clear after Saturday's game that he landed in the right place.
"I'd much rather coach Canada than the U.S. right now. … Wouldn't change coaching this team right now for anything in the world," Marsch said.

No surprise there, one program is on the rise and the other is a total mess.

It’s called job security. Why would he want to go to a country with expectations? He tried that with the Leeds job and failed miserably. Could you imagine the relief he must have felt going from the premier league to a country that has never even earned a World Cup point in their entire existence?! I would say round of 16 should be the goal and everything after that would be the cherry on top. We definitely have to make it out of the group, though. That’s way more expectations than Marsch has to deal with in Canada.

He sent the good players home, needs to evaluate who he has at depth, vs a mediocre mexican side away on a friendly.

Poch is a great coach. He needs to see what we have and who has chemistry and what others show... This is not a tournament, and doesnt mean anything.

Also? Blown out? 2-0 with an incredible free kick that Turner had no chance on? with our B team? With a new scheme?

Marsch just won 2-1 against a Panama side that USA beat 2-0 a couple days ago, not sure the comparisons are merited yet. Marsch also played vs Mexico and tied 0-0 a month ago in a neutral stadium.

Marsch played Davies all 90 minutes against Panama too. I suppose until you get a group point at the World Cup you have to treat friendlies that way.
