Do we not have a Mike Caliendo thread?

Well we do now!

Pretty good sign imo. Trey Smith is probably gone.

Chiefs are flush at guard, with Caliendo, CJ Hanson, Morris, and Kingsley...

If Thuney wants to keep playing, I think you extend him at this point so long as its team friendly deal

Searching for a Mike Caliendo thread, I found 7 threads about Frank Caliendo, most of them complaining about how he sucks now.

I didn't really see much issues with the line to be honest. I saw awful pocket awareness by Mahomes. LT looked well. Perhaps our interior line did not play as well as usual but Caliendos grade may indicate otherwise.

Thuney looked the best out of any of our LT play previously.

Yeah, I just feel like this season has taught us that we need to change how we allocate our cap on the OL.

We've been able to make the IOL work just fine with pretty fungible talents.

Thuney's a big dead money blow if we cut him BUT it's still a $16 million savings. As good as he is, that HAS to be on the table.

The Chiefs, IMO, have gotten a little too loosy goosy with positional value. They've spend too much time ignoring it over the last few years. Paying a rotational player like Danna who's not a rotational RUSHER is indicative of kinda losing the plot when it comes to savvy allocation of resources.

We just need to be a little more aware of WHERE we spend the money instead of just focusing on who we spend it on.

We could probably use the VSB on him and retain him at a reduced figure for at least a season.

I doubt a game or two is going to get him a long-term deal.

I also wonder how much actual service time he's accrued. I wouldn't be surprised if he's not accrued enough service time to be anything more than an ERFA, in which case we could retain him at damn near the league minimum; just keep him at an original tender level which would be next to nothing.

I'm betting that's the case based on his time on the roster.

If we aren’t going to give up on Kingsley (we shouldn’t), then is it crazy to just plan on Thuney as our LT for next year?

At least that justifies what he’s being paid.

You can find plug/play Guards in the draft every year. Look what Punni has done in SF. He’s been great.

I’d bet Thuney looks even better at LT with an entire offseason of prep.

I’d try to keep him another year because it’s possible Kingsley or a new guy we draft won’t be ready again. I don’t know if Mahomes can handle another year of this shit. It might make him go batty.

I know I know… that’s what Humphries is there for… okay, but if he becomes 100% healthy is he that much better?

The problem with Thuney is that he can't make his arms longer.

Eventually guys will figure out that they can just get into his body and pre-emptively defeat his punch. If they haven't already.

I can't see him holding up at OT for the season. That reach is just going to be something of an issue for him.

I mean people talk about how Schwartz excelled despite relatively short arms - for comparison, Schwartz was at 33 1/2 in arms to 32 1/4 for Thuney. I just don't think he can play the position with that kind of a reach disadvantage. I can't think of anyone who's doing so successfully at the moment.

Raimann for the Colts has short-ish arms, right? Like sub 33”?

Yeah, looks like 32 7/8. So still a half inch up on our boy. Raimann compares pretty similarly physically to Jordan Morgan and that was part of the reason Morgan's length didn't worry me as much as a prospect.

But Thuney just barely makes it over 32. At a point there HAS to be a threshhold level and I wonder if Thuney's below that for long-term success there.

In the past, I think we just had a combined thread for Nick Allegretti and Mike Caliendo since we thought they were the same person. But now that they've fissioned into two separate people, I think it's time to have our own Caliendo thread.
