Clark Hunt Statement

"I have a tremendous amount of respect and admiration for Romeo, both personally and professionally," Chiefs Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt said. "He is an accomplished coach, a man of great character and he helped guide our football team through some extremely challenging circumstances this season.

"However, I am embarrassed by the poor product we gave our fans this season, and I believe we have no choice but to move the franchise in a different direction. I will immediately begin the search for the next head coach of the Chiefs. The entire football operation will remain under review, and there may be additional changes to come. No final determination has been made at this point on the future of General Manager Scott Pioli.

"Finally, I want to personally apologize to our fans for our performance this season. We are blessed to play for some of the best and most passionate fans in the National Football League and they deserve better than what we gave them this season. I want our fans to know that I will do everything I can to provide them with a dramatically better team - both next season and in the seasons to come - and our entire organization appreciates their support."

Ray Rice?

Ladarius Webb? Or the Jimmy Smith/Jon Baldwin fiasco?

people on here think Webb and Smith suck (idiots) so....

and a lot of people on here hate Joe Flacco?

It's called adaptability. 100% different than the square peg/round hole philosophy Pioli came in here with.
Think about all the players he and Ozzie drafted in his time there. It's a goddamn HOF wing.

All that is missing is the QB - and it could be argued he never really had a chance. It cost too much to move up high in the draft until this decade.

Oh noes, he passed on Chad Pennington and Patrick Ramsey.

He traded up to choose between Kyle Boller and Rex Grossman.

I guess you can blame him for missing out on Drew Brees - just like 31 other teams missed out.

dont you guys watch Billick talk? It's very clear it was a collective?

you guys dont think Ozzie Newsome has just been this solo brainchild for 20 years all by himself do you? DeCosta turned down interviews with all teams for that reason, he's clearly involved in the Ravens not just Scooter Pioli yes man under Belichick

you really dont think Harbaugh has a say? The players are completely different style under Harbaugh than then Billick if you look at the positions selected and when in the sample size.

I've got it. We hire Billick, bring in JaMarcus Russell. Win.

Quote:
Brian Billick said on ESPN Radio that in his nine years as head coach of the Ravens, the highest grade Baltimore ever had on any player heading into the draft was in 2007, and the player wasn’t that year’s No. 2 overall pick, Calvin Johnson. It was that year’s No. 1 overall pick, JaMarcus Russell.

“We did a pretty decent job, and obviously they continue to do a phenomenal job in Baltimore, with Ozzie Newsome and his group,” Billick said. “JaMarcus Russell was the highest-rated player I’ve ever seen on any of our boards. So we all missed on JaMarcus Russell. Make no mistake.”

Modell invited Newsome to join him when the Browns moved from Cleveland to Baltimore in 1996 and named Newsome the team’s vice president of player personnel. Newsome was considered the architect of the Ravens first draft in Baltimore, which turned out to be the best in franchise history to date.

And with all that talent, Brian Billick still couldnt get the offense straightened out.

Cowher went to superbowls with bad quarterbacks and when he got a good one, he won championships and set the team up for sustained success.

Bill Cowher would be a far better hire than Brian Billick.

Clark is trying to force Pioli's hand and have him quit. Clark had a heated discussion with Scott this morning according to this email. Clark told him he won't have any say in this head coach because "this head coach will be here longer than you will".

Then there's this piece of info. Clark talked with Peyton Manning at length Sunday night. He wanted to know why the Chiefs weren't considered and everything Peyton said pointed the finger squarely on Pioli. Said Pioli's rep across the league is terrible. His inability to foster a "team" environment instead of one ruled like a dictator was huge too.

This really pissed Clark off. I said in a previous post that the loss could have triggered all of this, but it's apparent the PM discussion could have as well.

I'm completely shocked to say the least. Everything, and I mean everything, I've been told paints Clark as someone with a school boy crush on Pioli.

Clark wants to make a splash. He also wants to save the money from just firing Pioli. With all the lawsuits that former employees have pending against the Chiefs that list Pioli, Clark may have a case to fire him with definite cause.

Source said that Clark changed overnight toward Pioli.

Take it for what it's worth.
I need to make a phone call. A good buddy of mine has a relative that works inside. I have never worked this angle, but I know this buddy of mine would give this person a call for me. When talking with this guy before, he did say that Scooter is a baby Hitler to work for and the employees hate the guy. There is going to be no love lost when Scooter hits the door for the last time.

As we announced earlier today, Romeo Crennel was relieved of his duties as head coach of the Chiefs. It was a difficult decision, particularly because of the tremendous respect and admiration I have for Romeo. He is an accomplished coach, a man of great character and he helped guide our football team through some extremely challenging circumstances this season.
However, I am embarrassed by the poor product we gave our fans this season, and I believe we have no choice but to move the franchise in a different direction. I want to apologize to you and all our fans for our performance this season. We are blessed to play for some of the best fans in the National Football League and you deserve better than what we gave you this season. After our announcement today, I sat down with Mitch Holthus to share some additional thoughts. I invite you to watch that interview here.
I want you to know that I will do everything I can to provide you with a dramatically better team - both next season and in the seasons to come. Our entire organization appreciates your support.
